One drive issues, all sims 4 related

Hi, I'm not technical at all so please forgive me. I have an Asus Tuff gaming laptop purchased 8 months ago with Sims 4 on it, and a few Microsoft apps like Word and Excel and about 1,000 pics of my dog that passed. There isn't anything else on the laptop. About 4 days ago I got a pop up from One drive asking did I want to delete 2,500 files or keep them. I pressed keep and thought nothing else of it. Now I'm getting the pop up a million times a day, and the number of files it wants to delete is increasing and it's now doubled. When I've clicked the name of the files, they are all sims 4 related files. Do I just press delete? I dont use Mods or custom content, and have the option turned off in game. Im not clever enough to know how to use them, so Im unsure what Ive done causing it. I want the pop up to stop. I don't want to lose my sims game and I don't want to master reset my laptop and lose pics of my dog. Please can someone help me? The message give me a file name of ZoneObjects. Pic attached. This happened after the recent update around 8th Feb (ish) with the new time traveller task thing.

So, my One Drive is constantly deleting the sims files and everything is running perfectly fine, I never lost any data to it so you can probably go ahead with letting the One Drive delete those. If you want to be on the safe side, just make sure you create a backup of your safe files (you can put it on an external drive or a USB). You can do that by going to your Documents -> Electronic Arts -> Sims 4
From there you want to copy your saves folder and UserSetting.ini

What I believe is happening with all the files is the game loading up the gallery images and stuff like that and they need to be stored somewhere. My One Drive automatically deletes all those files after every sims session I have.

I hope this helps and saves the pictures of your late doggo <3

So I pressed delete and assuming it deleted the 4,000 files. I played sims for a little and closed it down and then got a message asking did I want to delete 800 files. So the numbers dropped. But I'm still being asked before and after every game which is annoying, I'd like to stop the notification if possible, I'm not sure how I unlink them? But nothing was broken in game (touch wood) all worked fine and no files were gone from my laptop.

  • I've been having the same issue too, I don't know why this keeps happening with onedrive. It's honestly becoming very annoying. On my last pc, I didn't sign into onedrive at all so I didn't have that issue, unfortunately I spilled water on my pc, completely damaging it and because I didn't back up my sims files to anything, they were just completely gone and I had to start over everything. This time I signed up for one drive because if I had backed up at least my save file then I hopefully wouldn't have had to start over but onedrive doesn't give you enough storage or asks you what you want to save, it just automatically syncs all the files you have on your pc. I ended up having to click free up space on most of the items on my pc because once you run out of space, it stops syncing and won't save any of your new files. The zone objects I believe are all the things you've saved from the gallery into your game library. From my personal experience of having to start over, its better to upload your saved housholds and lots into the public game gallery (all the households and lots I had made saved to tray file and I thought by just saving them to my personal game library they would be saved but they weren't, only the stuff I uploaded to the public game gallery were) and just make sure your game save files are saved on onedrive or a hard drive or some type of cloud storage that won't delete without your permission in case your pc gets damaged or files are accidentally deleted on pc.

  • 0fd87ec4ba6dabb7 mddsteeze prettyloserrrrr  I would suggest either disabling OneDrive entirely or at least not letting it sync your Sims 4 data.  The various options are covered here:

[CURRENT ISSUE] Sims 4 saves/user content disappearing (PC) | EA Forums - 11838402

Anchors don't work on this site at the moment, so use ctrl-F and search for keywords to navigate.

If you want to be able to use OneDrive to back up your data, but not have it do so automatically, you can move the location of Documents out of OneDrive, BUT keep OneDrive running overall.  Then anything you drop into C:\Users\your username\OneDrive\Documents will be synced, but your Sims 4 data won't be stored there.  It's the second half of the "I want to get rid of OneDrive" section without the first half.

Thank you for the help. I am stuck at the restoring the EA folder pr Sims 4 folder if you could assist please? I have unsynced the one drive (thanks so much for this help!!) How do I now 'restore' my sims 4 folder or the EA folder please? I copied them (both) into downloads as apparently one drive won't sync from there. When I go into documents to restore them I dont know what to press (sorry I'm not very computer savvy!) There's just one document now calls shortcut to documents (onedrive-personal) and my EA app on my desktop has changed its name to the same as above. Thanks for any help!

  • 0fd87ec4ba6dabb7  Make sure you're opening the correct version of Documents.  In File Explorer, click This PC in the left panel, double-click the C drive, and open Users > your username > Documents.

Please also make sure the game is reading the correct user folder, i.e. not the one in OneDrive.  Here's how to find the location:

    https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2018/07/how-to-find-your-user-folder/

Aside from that, you simply need to move the Sims 4 folder out of Downloads and into Documents > Electronic Arts.  Trash the new Sims 4 folder inside, that was created when you checked the location the game was reading as described in the link above, and put the old one back.
