Pixelated graphics after january 2025 update despite ultra settings

My game automatically updated yesterday, and there's an issue i can't resolve.

I have a ROG STRIX G614JV_G614JV and use NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU.

I've always had my game on the highest graphics settings, edge smoothing and post-processing turned off as i use gshade shaders. I've never had any issues with quality. My laptop screen resolution is also set to highest.

I've noticed that the entire game has significantly dropped in quality. The whole game is somewhat pixelized, the UI, the textures on cas and build items, terrain, you name it. Even custom content looks terrible. I thought it was in my head, but screenshots made it obvious something wasn't right. I even tried upscaling with SRWE to see how the pictures would look, you guessed it - totally pixelized.

I attached a dxdiag along with two screenshots. I know some of you might think these look completely fine, but i promise you they don't compared tot he quality i'm used to. I play several times a week and i'm 100% confident the quality dropped.

These are all the fixes i tried, and still no luck:

-removed all my mods and custom content.

-removed my packs.

-made sure ts4 is using the NVDIA card and not integrated graphics.

-turned on edge smoothing and post-processing (then off again, played with the settings many times to see if anything would work)

-disabled gshade.

-checked integrity of files in steam.

-tried to launch in dx9 and dx11.

-deleted localthumbcache and options.ini

-uninstalled then reinstalled the sims app.

-updated my graphics driver and ran a system bios update.

-restarted my laptop.

-tried launching through EA instead of Steam.

Honestly, I've ran out of ideas. I'm not sure what's wrong with the game, and I haven't found any other thread on here or on reddit talking about it.

I'd be so grateful if anyone has ANY idea on how to fix this. thanks!

I'm having an issue finding the correct Ddu download. There are two options in the picture below.

  • ravensdior  Either one is fine.  The "installer" gives you an app that installs like most other apps: you choose a location and it stays there.  In this context, "portable" means you don't have to install it; you can drag it around to other locations on your computer, or leave it in Downloads, or move it onto a USB and run it while the USB is plugged into a different computer.

Pc is running better than ever, but it didn't fix the game issue. The graphics probably look great to the untrained eye, but because I was playing right before I updated, I can tell that it's lowered.

  • I decided to check my monitor to see if that's the problem and I think it is. In property settings, it says device settings are not migrated. Could this be the issue, and if so, what can I do?

  • ravensdior  To be clear, running the monitor at 60 Hz didn't help?  144 Hz is technically an overclock, even if it should be stable.

In what context do you see the "device settings not migrated" message?  I don't know a lot about monitor software, but unless yours received a firmware update, nothing should have changed on that end.  Still, if you can borrow another monitor, or even hook your computer up to a TV, it's an easy test.

60hz did nothing. I recorded a video, took some screenshots, and sent them to my phone, everything looked fine. I don't know how or why this happened after updating but it definitely seems to be my monitor. I'll try my tv next to make sure though.

  • nvm, it's the game. I've tried everything under the sun and the game remains the same no matter what. I will wait until the next update to see if it fixes it.

  • I’m having the same problem, but I have a Mac so I have no clue how to send a diagnosis text from it. The game has run great for years but this last update has killed the graphics and performance of the game.
