PC keeps freezing after the initial sims 4 loading screen

So, hi for the past few months I haven't been able to play sims 4 because my PC keeps freezing after the initial loading screen. If somebody could help me it would be nice. Here is my DxDiag

  • T4h45in  Thanks for the dxdiag.  Try installing this driver, which is listed as newer than the one your computer currently has:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/65719/intel-core-i73770-processor-8m-cache-up-to-3-90-ghz/downloads.html

Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart after instaling it and before trying to play.

If that doesn't help, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent attempt to open Sims 4.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

Hi, so I just did everything you told me to do but I am still facing the same problem. I had to force shut down my PC as my keyboard and mouse stopped responding when I entered the game. However unlike previous times this time I was able to move my cursor in the game for a few seconds but ultimately it stopped working. Also I waited for an hour for the reliability monitor to update but the only error that it is showing me is this  'The previous system shutdown at 3:47:45 PM on ‎8/‎3/‎2025 was unexpected.' which i believe occurred when I forced shut down my PC when my keyboard and mouse stopped responding. Any advice on how should I solve this issue??

  • T4h45in  You're right, the error was because of the shutdown, not because of the game freeze.  So the question is what is causing the freeze and also not producing a Windows error.

One possibility is that the issue is the connection to your monitor—it could be fine for normal use but unable to handle the large amount of data Sims 4 generates.  Do you have an HDMI cable lying around that you could borrow from your computer?  If you have a TV, it probably uses one.  Your motherboard and monitor both have HDMI connectors, according to their online specs.

If this helps, you could buy a new HDMI cable, which should be cheap, but I wouldn't want to tell you to spend money without confirming that it works.

If it doesn't help, do you have a friend or family member who has a low-end graphics card you could test with?  You'd likely need something that doesn't require a supplemental power cable, for example an Nvidia GTX 1050 or some models of 1650 or RTX 3050.  The idea would be to test with a different GPU than the one integrated into the processor, in case this (or the motherboard) is the problem.  Here again, I don't want to tell you to buy something that might not work, although once you confirmed that it did, you could probably pick up a suitable GPU for under $50 on Ebay/Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace.

If the HDMI cable doesn't help and you can't borrow a graphics card to test with, let's see whether we can get a crash log from the game.  Here's how to enable them:

    • Hit the Windows key, type "command prompt" in the box, right-click on Command Prompt in the search results, and select Run as Administrator
    • In the window, paste "reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\devenv.exe" /v DumpType /d 2 /t REG_DWORD" without the outside quotes into the box, and enter
    • Launch Sims 4 and wait for it to crash (whether you can play at all or not)
    • After it crashes, wait for any crash dialogs to finish
    • Then hit Windows key-R and paste "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" without quotes into the box, and enter
    • Upload the last .dmp file to a free filesharing site and link it here
    • When you want to undo the auto crash log dumps, open Command Prompt as before, paste "reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps" /f" without the outside quotes, and enter.

To be clear, this won't produce a crash dump if there isn't a proper crash.  But sometimes the system isn't writing the dump files for other reasons.

  • Hey so it turns out its not my pc which is freezing, its my monitor. Now I have tried using my TV as a secondary display device and the game haven't caused my PC to freeze until now . Note that my TV is connected to my PC with an HDMI cable however, my monitor isn't it using the display port. But I have previously played sims 4 for hours using my monitor so I really dont understand why the game is now causing my monitor to freeze. Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Also note that the HDMI port on my monitor is broken so I am kinda forced to use the display port.

Also it seems like when I am using my monitor as my primary display the pc keeps freezing. Could it be a driver issue or something???

  • Also correction my pc is connected to my monitor using a dvi cable.

  • UPDATE; so its the pc that is freezing ,not the display devices.

  • T4h45in  I apologize for the late reply; I've been away from the forums for a while.

Your PC can freeze due to an issue with the monitor or the connection to it, and it sounds like you've confirmed that the problem is somewhere along that pipeline since the game runs fine when your computer is only connected to your TV.  You could try buying a new DVI cable, but that won't help unless the problem is the cable itself, of course.  The same goes for getting an adapter.

Instead, it might be worth getting another monitor.  They're very cheap on the secondhand market right now because monitor technology is improving rapidly.  You might easily find someone who's willing to sell you their old one for next to nothing, and you can test it before you pay.  Just make sure it supports HDMI, which shouldn't be an issue on any relatively recent model.
