Re: [CURRENT ISSUE] Sims 4 Failed to Launch Game

Dear Bella,  

      My dearest friend. I am sorry I am unable to visit you. The EA Gods refuse to fix the issues that keep us from being together. I keep seeing a failure to launch message and no matter how many times I uninstall, install, clean cache, repair, cry and scream it is all to no avail.  Twice the EA Gods have allowed to get past the launch screen only to give me another error in a little green box in the upper right-hand corner with 00000000000000 and some other numbers. Apparently the 'update' they launched is the issue and it is up to the EA Gods to have mercy and repair what they broke.  I do not know when I will be able to visit with you, Mortimer and your lovely children again.  I am anxious to see you. 

Please keep the grilled cheese warm for me.

PS. EA, if you read this please know we spend a lot of money on a product that often breaks. In times like these when we look to dissociate from the real world, we are hoping to be able to get lost in our little virtual worlds.  As your customers we deserve better than this.

    My game has had failure to launch issues for months.  Even when I took out the mods.  It keeps saying it is a problem on your end.  EA told me to uninstall the EA app, uninstall the game, then reinstall them and try again.  It worked...the first few times.  Now I just uninstalled and reinstalled both again for the third time today and it won't launch.

    I'm still having this issue myself. I have not found a fix and EA help has not done anything for me.

    I have the same problem. I thought it was cause of a saved-game problem or something else, and i uninstalled the game, lost my fave generations-save, all to find out it is STILL not working. I haven't been playing after the latest patches, because my saved-game wouldnt load past the 'Worlds' screen and now this?

    I'm with you. I've purchased every single expansion pack up until the Enchanted by Nature EP, all the game packs, stuff packs, and several of the kits. I'm talking $100's of money spent on this game, and I've also been playing The Sims since launch in 2000. 

    As someone who has played through the trials and tribulations, experienced the joys and frustrations of updates breaking this and that, I've come to expect some issues, but this? THIS issue? It teases me, allowing me to create a new game. I can't load a game I've already saved, but I can create a new one. Great. When I get to the world select screen, choose a world to live in, pick the home, then select "play".... it brings me right back to the world select. Over, and over, and over again. I've removed ALL mods, ALL saved anything, and gone to a completely fresh and clean install. Still, the issues persist. I'll never understand how EA is so slow to fix these kinds of problems. 

    At this point, I've spent HUNDREDS - close to, if not more than, a freaking grand, on this d!mn game. I'd like to be able to play what I've spent my money on. Not sure when it will be fixed is a HUUUUGE problem, and it makes me honestly sick to my stomach.

    I have a legacy save that I've spent a LONG time on - one complete with EVERY SINGLE BUILD being redone, including the NPC's being redone..... I will quit the sims for good and for forever if this becomes an issue that can't be fixed. I am to my limit, and I can't continue to support something that doesn't seem to care at all about its' player base. As someone who has been a Sims supporter since 2000, this is ridiculous.

    I am still getting the failure to launch error when I try to sign into Sims4. Has anybody heard when this will be fixed? I'm at the waving my white flag point and thinking of just deleting everything

    Mawmaw_Shark​ TheSimmerGirl16​ Furr_Mamma88​ Araunah2​ wang061123​ chillyw316​  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

    Please also check your antivirus for recent actions involving Sims 4 or the EA App.  If necessary, set exceptions for TS4_x64, TS4_DX9_x64, and TS4_Launcher_x64, or the entire Bin folder they're in, plus EADesktop.exe as well.

    When testing, restart your computer each time you get the "failed to launch game" error, or at least before you try to play again.

    If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

    Mawmaw_Shark​  The error code you're seeing sounds like a Sims Delivery error that sometimes happens when there's no SDX update but the game can't check.  That, in turn, can be antivirus-related.  But even if it's not, you can get around it by opening the game in offline mode, then disabling SDX updates entirely within the game options.  You should be able to play online again without seeing this error.

    I've tried deleting/uninstall reinstall and still get the error.

    Follow the instructions that puzzleaddict  gave. I had to add the exception to my antivirus and now it works and even better than it did before.

    THANK YOU!!! I added set the exception for TS4_64. That was the issue. Now, I am going to share your advice with the  WORLD!!!

    Mawmaw_Shark​  Glad to hear it, thanks for the update, and enjoy your game.

    Sith25Z20​  Are you getting the "failed to launch game" error, or something else?  Did you try the other troubleshooting steps in my previous post?  I'm guessing you did since you posted a dxdiag, but I want to be sure before making any unnecessary suggestions.  Your dxdiag lists a number of Sims 4-related access violations, a type of crash that's too generic to be useful on its own, and there's nothing else in the dxdiag that stands out as a potential problem.

    If none of that helped, is OneDrive running on your computer?  It could be interfering with the game.  Try pausing syncing, which you can do by right-clicking the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen, or pehaps hidden in the Tray (^ icon).

    If that doesn't help either, please create a new admin Windows account and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account or any email address; you'll be asked some security questions instead.  You can at least try to launch the game without reinstalling anything.

    I am unable to move the Sims4 folder to my desktop. It tells me that the file is in use.
