Your game probably decided to use another location for its user files likely on Onedrive. Please confirm that you have a The Sims 4 folder on Onedrive in documents\Electronics Arts as well as in the local Documents folder.
There is nothing of the sort in OneDrive but there is an Electronic Arts; Sims 4 folder in documents

I'm afraid this folders are unrecoverable. Such cases have been reported, and no folders hidden by OneDrive have ever been found.

Please check if that points to somewhere else.

So the saves folder is empty? Please check recycle bin to see if something is there.
Also do a search for the Sims 4 to see if there is such a folder elsewhere on your drive.
Yes the saves folder is empty and I've searched and there is no sims 4 folder elsewhere. Also nothing in the recycle bin
In that case I can't help any more. It is impossible to say what might have happened as we have ruled out known causes. Unless you have a backup elsewhere you will need to start over.
