Re: how do I make a deskstop shortcut for the Sims 4?

  1. Navigate to this folder: programs(x86)\Origin_Games\thesims4\game\bin (path may vary depending on your installation)
  2. there you see a file called ts4 or ts4.exe.
  3. Right click on that file and choose Send To .. Desktop
  4. This will create a short called ts4.exe on your desktop
  5. You can then rename the shortcut on the desktop by clicking on it until the text is highlighted.

Notice that if you use a 64bit version of Windows you can instead create a shortcut to ts4_x64.exe. This can improve performance. Notice that if you have less than 4GB of RAM (very unlikely) you should run the 32 bit version (ts4.exe) regardless of if Windows is 64bit.

TS4.exe will start the 64 bit version if you have it set to 64 bit in Origin

That is correct. However you can save a little (very little) on load time as ts4.exe must invoke ts4_x64.exe.

Hi, when I do that a window pops up saying there's a system error. It says that Core/Activation64.dll is missing from my computer.

  • I can't find this file, programs(x86)\Origin_Games\thesims4\game\bin .

It is not a file but a folder and you are probably looking for C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin unless you play on a Mac.

I understand your Sims4 icon on the desktop stopped works after the Legacy patch.
One question: is your system 64 bits or 32- bits?
I have a 64-bit system and the patch forced me to download Legacy Edition although I didn't need it.
Of course, the icon on the desktop stopped work after it.
So if you have a 64-bit Windows system:
Go to the Origin/My games Library. Right-click on TS4 and select properties or game data. (My version of Origin is not in English so I don't know what the equivalent of this term is for you)
Then select advanced startup options. Change from 32 bit to 64 bit there
Then fix the game in Origin:
Once more right-click on TS4 select the option "repair game"
The first time launch the game from Origin - not from the desktop icon

If your system is 32- bits
Open Program Filles(x86) / Origin Games/ The Sims 4/Games/ Bin LE and right-click TS4_x32.exe. Select "Sent to desktop"

    I don't work for EA
  • @crinrict Hi, I’m in the Bin folder and I do not see any ts4.exe file. I have a Core folder, Python Folder, and a res folder. I’m so lost!
  • I don’t have any of those things except the three folders. My shortcut was just randomly deleted and I don’t have to run the legacy edition. This is madness, lol.

Try to launch the game from Origin
Open "My games library" and click on TS4. You should have the option "Play"
If you don't have this option reinstall the game.
  • Hi, I do not have a bin folder.. and when i tried changing from 64 bit to 32 it erased all my saved data from my worlds so i switched back to the 64 bit. Is that complicating the ability to create a shortcut?

@_graceee8  The 32-bit Legacy Edition reads from a different user data folder than the standard version of Sims 4, which is why your saves were gone when you switched to the LE.  That has nothing to do with the shortcut or where it's located.

If you can open Sims 4, you have a Bin folder somewhere.  Unless you changed the default install path, TS4_x64.exe will be located here:

    Program Files(x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin

Open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, then follow the path to find the .exe.  (It might just look like TS4_x64 if your OS is set to hide file extensions.)  If you don't see it, you can search for "TS4_x64" (without quotes) in a File Explorer window.  When you see the .exe, you can click on it and then go to its location, from where you can right-cllick and Send to > Desktop to create the shortcut.

  • When I click the sims 4 folder it just comes is with lots of folders what should I do ?

@Tropical1ce  If you're trying to make a desktop shortcut, please open these folders in succession:

    Program Files(x86) > Origin Games > The Sims 4 > Game > Bin

Then right-click on the TS4_x64.exe inside the Bin folder, and select Send to > Desktop.

If you're trying to do something else, please describe what that is and where you're stuck.  If you don't see TS4_x64.exe, please take a screenshot of what you do see and attach it to a post.

@itza_noelle  If you've installed the game through the EA App, the default location is this:

    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Game\Bin

You can also search "This PC" for TS4_x64 , which will exist somewhere if you can run the game (in Windows) at all.

Since this thread is somewhat old, I'll lock it here.
