Re: Sims 4 stops responding then continues every few seconds

@EyeoftheApple  You can disable the Origin web helper service: open Origin, hover over your username, and select Application Settings.  Under Application (the first header), scroll down to Start-up options, disable the helper service, quit Origin, restart your computer just to be extra thorough, and test the game.

If that doesn't help, please move your entire Sims 4 game folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and test.

If that doesn't help either, please run a dxdiag and attach the results to a post.

Oh my god, the first solution worked! I restarted my computer just to be safe, like you said, and as soon as I got the game running, it was running just as well as it use to before all this!

    Thank you so much!!!

Hi, i've had the same issue and i tried moving my sims folder to my desktop and now all of my progress on the sims is gone. I've not checked to see if it solved the issue yet because i don't have any families anymore but if you know how to fix this it would be a big help thank you.

@Jo27030727  The point of the test is to see how the game works with none of your content present—the answer eliminates a number of possibilities either way.  So please test with a clean folder, no files added to it, and let me know how it goes,  Please also let me know exactly what happens: does the game crash, does it freeze, do you see a white or black screen, etc.?

If the clean folder doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

hi, the game works fine in a clean folder. it happens  sometimes as often as 20 seconds where my sims just stop doing anything and i have to pause my game for a while for everything to go back to normal. it all looks fine but they just stay still and do nothing. ill try running that thing and ill let you know how it goes

@Jo27030727  A dxdiag can still be useful in diagnosing borderline cases: maybe your computer is just powerful to run a new save well but gets bogged down with older ones.  The place to start though is by copying your existing save into the clean Sims 4 folder and testing.  Don't move over any other files; since you're copying rather than moving the save, you don't need to worry about missing custom content.

@Jo27030727  Yes, you can do that, or you can open the saves folder and copy one or more of the files inside.  You can sort your saves by modified date, or just copy over all of them if it's easier.

@Jo27030727  Okay, so the game runs fine without your old saves, but freezes when you add the saves back in and try to play one?  How large are your save files?  Can you play a different household within the same save without issues?  You don't have to save your progress, but it's a useful test.

@Jo27030727  How large, in KB or MB, is the save file that doesn't run properly?  Do you see the same freezing if you load a different household?

@puzzlezaddict I'm not sure how to see how big of a file my save is because I don't know how to tell them apart in files lol. i tried out two different households in the same save, one of them I had visit my current families house and the freezing happened for the new household as well. the second house hold was in the same town but not with my current family and it seemed to be fine, i'm not sure if it was just going through a good patch though and wasn't freezing at that moment.

@Jo27030727  You can sort the saves by date modified and match the timestamps with the last time you saved your progress in a given save.  If the other households run fine though, except for when you load the home lot of your main household, the issue is probably your main sims or their house.

You can experiment a bit, for example moving the sims to a different house.  Or you can play a different household for a few sim-hours, save, quit, reload, and go back to your main household to see whether it runs better.  If you start by using "save as" to rename the save, you'll have a new copy you can mess with while your original copy remains intact, so you don't have to worry about the consequences of what you're doing.
