Re: Sims 4 will not close

@Leelosingmarbles  First of all, instead of shutting down your laptop, you can hit crtl-alt-delete and choose "sign out" instead of trying to open the Task Manager.  This will throw you back to the login screen and also close any running programs, including Sims 4.

For the game issue itself, does Sims 4 ever freeze other than when you're trying to close it?  Does it only freeze when you use "save and exit," or also when you try to exit without saving?  Please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post as well.

  • It does freeze just before closing but it has always done that, even on other computers. I usually just wait for it to close out and it'll give me the little spinning wheel thing on the mouse. However, for some reason, it hasn't been doing that at all.

@Leelosingmarbles  Please answer a few other questions:

    • Does the game ever freeze at any other point, as in not when you're trying to quit?
    • Does the game freeze if you click "exit without saving"?
    • Do you use OneDrive?
    • Does the game freeze if you play while your computer is offline?  You can sign into Origin and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.
  • The game only ever freezes if I click "exit without saving" or "save and exit".

    I do not use OneDrive

The game does not freeze if I play offline, I've played the game a few times offline like on a plane and while the power was out.

@Leelosingmarbles  Please try playing while your computer is online but Origin is in offline mode and let me know whether you get a freeze.  If you do, please try playing in a clean boot, again with Origin offline but your computer online.

When you reboot, go through the Task Manager's background processes list and shut down anything that doesn't absolutely need to be enabled.  If you kill the wrong process by accident and it doesn't restart automatically, just reboot your computer.
