@puzzlezaddict windows and I don't think I have any antivirus protection but I only play Sims on my laptop

@rikkijade  Please look through the Task Manager's background processes list, and the Startup tab too, to see if you can find anything that looks like it belongs to an antivirus.  It's important to know this before proceeding.

Please also list the install location for the game.  Open your EA App game library, click Sims 4, select Manage > View properties, and you'll see it there:
