Game Crashes or stays loading forever

Please help I've cleared cashes, deleted back-up saves. The game will let me make a sim but when it comes to loading the save or playing with the sims it either loads forever or it crashes to the main screen or crashes entirely. This has been happening since the latest update. I even removed my mods and CC, it still didn't load. Please what can I do to fix this.

  • kyuumihaira  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see whether you can get into live mode.

If that doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Thank you!! Putting the folder on my desktop worked. But what do I do now? Sorry, this is the first time something like this has happened to me. Thank you.

  • kyuumihaira  That means that something in the folder you moved is the issue.  So you'll need to test any files you'd like to keep in the new Sims 4folder to find the issue.

If you want to restore your mods and cc, test those first, either in batches or using the 50/50 method:

Once you've done that, you can move over the contents of the saves and Tray (saved households and builds) folders, plus Screenshots and Recorded Videos if you care about those.  The rest can be discarded.

One note is that some mods place files in the saves folder, so look out for that, especially if you're removing or replacing the mods that are creating those files.
