save files corrupting, game unplayable

I have been playing the Sims 4 since it came out. Recently I kept getting error 801 and so i have tried:

Repairing the game

Reinstall EA app

create new sims 4 folder

delete corrupted save files

uninstalled for rent expansion (played the longest without error here)

The lots keep reducing in value when i go to travel, move a household etc.

Now I am looking to attach my save files and I dont see any files in the save folder.

I have spent SO MUCH money and time on this game and now it's unplayable. Help!

  • hayynyee  There's a bug report for this type of error, potentially a couple actually.  But before I send you that way, is it possible OneDrive is eating your save files?  Here's how to see whether Sims 4 is storing your user data in a OneDrive folder:

If the folder is inside OneDrive, and you want it moved, let me know.  If the folder is not in the location where you expect it to be, please look in this location for your saves.

Good thought, just checked and my one drive has nothing saved since 2023 and is not synced so that shouldn't be the problem. I have also turned off the beta for backup saves, save corrupted again this morning. All of my saves appear again in the Sims 4 folder under documents since repairing the game yesterday, again

  • hayynyee  If your saves are present but not loading, please make sure the saves are named properly named so the game can recognize them.  Saves need to be named in the format Slot_XXXXXXXX.save , with no extra characters.  There need to be eight Xs, each a hexidecimal digit (numbers 0 to 9, letters a to f).  If one save is named correctly but doesn't load, try another, including any backups you have.  Those would be the ones ending in .verx , with .ver0 being the newest, and they're backups of the save with the same internal number.

I would also make a backup of your entire saves folder right now, just in case you recover a save but it corrupts again later.

If you want, you can provide your saves folder as well, either directly to Maxis or to me to pass on.  Here's how to send it along:

Having said that, if your saves are getting smaller and OneDrive is NOT eating your files, it might be time to save all the houses and sims you care about and place them in a new save.  We still don't know all the reasons saves have been disintegrating—OneDrive and For Rent clearly account for some of the mess but not all of it—which means there might not be anything you can do to halt the progress.

I just took a look at the saves, and they are correctly named. I am able to go back and use an old save to start from a slightly earlier point so not all is lost but keep having to start new games etc. I just passed my files along so I will keep updating as I get more information
