Save keeps loading, external hard drive

Sul sul everyone!

So the thing is I uninstalled my Sims 4 and reinstalled it to my external hard drive (Toshiba 1 tb).

I created a backup file of my Document\Sims 4 and created a Sims 4 folder to hard drive. Installing went smoothly and I did move my save files to external's Sims 4 folder.

The problem is that the game loads smoothly to main menu but when I want to start the old save, it just keeps loading.

It took forever to install the game again to the external but was it a mistake? Is the external hard drive too slow because the save just keeps loading.

Did I place save files or something else to a wrong folder? Can I do something.

I play through EA App.

I'm sorry if there's any grammar errors. I'm from Finland and don't use English in everyday life. 😂

You can not just move the saves to the external drive. The game only looks in Documents. There is a way to get them to the external drive which involves a symbolic link. Steps to create that has been posted many times.
Try starting a new game. Does that work?

    Thank you for your reply.

I didn't quite get that what symlink means when I read the instructions. And EA's own steps were a bit messy.

But when I deleted the save files kn the external drive, the game worked just fine.

  • riikin  Do you still want your saves on the external drive?  Depending on the speed of the drive, you might run into long loading times, but you can always try and revert if you don't like the results.  Here's how to move your saves and other user data to the external:

Please do NOT combine the user data with the game's program files.  Create a secondary folder if necessary, named whatever you want, and move the Sims 4 user folder there.
