  • QueenVixie  The reason you're getting an error when trying to do anything with this file is that it's in a protected folder.  If you know what you're doing, you can use the takeown command to give yourself permission to alter the contents of the folder.  (I can write out the steps if you like, but this is something not to be taken lightly, at least not when dealing with a folder belonging to the OS.)  Or you can run a repair install of Windows, which would hopefully give you a fresh copy of this file.

This shouldn't delete any of your data, but if you get to step 14 and are NOT asked to keep personal files and apps, back out and start over.

    please and thank you

  • QueenVixie  Did you specifically run a repair install the way the article describes?  There are a lot of suggestions for how to "repair" Windows, but this one is more thorough than anything else out there aside from wiping your computer, which you shouldn't need to do.

Please also let me know whether you have another computer running the same version of Windows as this one, not just 11 vs. 10 but the same build number.

Yes i have ran the repair the command multiple times didnt show any errors so that is a bust but no this is my only current pc device

  • QueenVixie  It's not a command, it's basically reinstalling Windows, except not all of it and without erasing your drive.  I'm sorry to keep coming back to this point, but please please create an ISO, as in option two, run the setup.exe, and let it repair Windows that way.

Part of the reason for this is that the other option here is to manually replace the file in question.  But a) as I said, changing permissions on a Windows folder is dicey; and b), without another Windows PC to donate a copy of the file, you're stuck downloading one from the internet, which is even more dicey.  I'm not saying you can't do it, I'm saying I wouldn't recommend it unless you were out of options.

It's your computer though, and your choice.

  • QueenVixie  The guide to running a repair install of Windows has two methods.  Option Two includes creating an ISO and using it to repair the operating system.  There's a link on that page for how to create an ISO, which is not at all difficult; you just need to know which website to go to (from Microsoft) and what buttons to press.  It really is very effective.
