sims 4 closing at startup

After installing the recent update my game won't open at all, it gets to the Sims 4 loading screen and then just closes and returns to the EA launcher. I tried repairing and removing mods folder, but...

It is a problem with the saves. Looks like when the game loads it read the last saved game before the menu screen even comes up. If you copy over your saves to a different folder, leaving your save folder empty, you can probably start a new character and play as I have been able to twice. As soon as you put your old saves back in the save folder, and try to load them, it crashes the game. Since that has become the last save you accessed, it will just auto crash all over again on start up. It is definitely caused by the update.

    So I can't put my old saves back? I don't really want to start a new one because my main save file is the one I usually play on

    So basically we can't play the game if we're playing in the save files that we might have spent 100's of hours on?
