Sims 4 crashes on windows 10 laptop without warning

Hello,

On our laptop the game played very good for 3 years, however since 3 weeks the game randomly closes and the laptop goes back to the desktop. This happens sometimes during startup, during 5 minutes gametime, 20 minutes gametime. I tried alot of things and also the Visual C++ Redistributable tips from another thread.

I attached the DxDiag.txt file, could you check it and help us? (it is in Dutch, please let me know if this isn't ok).

thank you!

Also 1 thing i noticed: in the DxDiag file from another thread it shows under "Display Devices" Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
            Manufacturer: NVIDIA.

We also have a dedicated Geforce card however in our DxDiag file it shows: Card name: Intel(R) UHD Graphics
            Manufacturer: Intel Corporation.

    Isn't this strange?

  • DriePees  When multiple GPUs are active, the dxdiag will list all of them.  Yours starts with the Intel graphics chip, the one integrated into the processor, but if you scroll down a bit, you'll see your RTX 3050 ti as well.  This is normal.

Your dxdiag also shows that you're running a game version a few patches behind the current one.  So please update to 1.116 and see what happens.  And test first with your Mods folder removed if you use any mods or custom content at all.  You don't need to save your progress.

  • Thanks!

regarding the mods folder: i went to "Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4" directory" and then in the "the sims 4 folder" found the mods folder and deleted it. Is that the correct way?

  • DriePees  That's fine.  You could also have moved it elsewhere (like to your desktop), or even renamed it while leaving it in place.  The game can't read it unless it's called "Mods" (exactly that, no extra characters) and is in the correct Sims 4 folder.

  • I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the geforce drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling the Visual C++ Redistributable and it didn't help.

after deleting the "mods" folder, the game lasted for the longest since the crashes 😀

will test it extensively tomorrow and I hope it's solved now!
