Sims 4 crashes soon after startup or as soon as I click anywhere on the menu.

Hi everyone,

I'm listing this on behalf of my wife as I've spent hours trying to debug this with her. She's an avid Sims 4 player and have been playing for years on the same laptop (been able to play up to realm of magic and all other packs to date). Suddenly today, the game would no longer load up without crashing either in the load screen, or as soon as you literally just click once anywhere (sometimes it reaches the opening main menu, but any interaction crashes it). I'm normally able to debug things fairly efficiently but today I'm stumped.

Laptop used is an MSI with a 3.2GHZ 4 core 8 thread Intel i7 CPU, 8GB Ram and a Geforce 940MX 2GB.

We have tried what feels like ALL online solutions, including:

  • Reinstalling Sims 4
  • Reinstalling Origin
  • Updating Graphics Drivers
  • Ensuring enough disk space
  • Clearing the Origin Cache
  • Clearing the Sims 4 Cache
  • Using the Origin repair tool
  • Reinstalling ALL vcredist libraries from like 2008 - 2019.
  • Using command line argument -w und or f (I cannot find a good list of other options to try??)
  • Disabling Origin in-game (this causes a 1 second white screen and crashes immediately without ever showing a load screen)
  • Latest patches are installed
  • CPU/GPU is not overclocked
  • Run the game in compatibility mode
  • Run the game as administrator
  • Clean boot
  • PC meets minimum requirements
  • Windows wouldn't allow us to drop DEP for the game
  • Turned off the windows defender firewall
  • No 3rd party anti-virus
  • All mods were removed
  • Deleting crash reports
  • Double checked the game runs on graphics chip and not integrated Intel chip
  • Tried offline mode
  • CPU power level max state is at 100% on battery/plugged in
  • Game reset to factory settings
  • We don't use any kind of VPN
  • Windows 10 is up to date

If anyone can afford any additional info to the above-mentioned steps, it would be greatly appreciated. Currently unable to enjoy a product we've spent hundreds of dollars on for no apparent reason ☹️

Thank you kindly.

    @Catharsis9201

I see you did a factory reset, but to be 100% sure I will ask you if you did it this way as described below?

Step 1. Rename The Sims4 folder to "The Sims4 old"
Step 2. Fix the game in Origin
    Origin/Library - right-click on TS4 - option "Repair game"
You have to wait until Origin will fix all packs, not only the base game.
Step 3. Turn on the game - and if it will launch - a new game folder should be created you will have two games folders - one old, one new

If it didn't work like before could you post your Computer's DxDiag?

To gather a DxDiag on your computer, please follow the steps here: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/
You can attach the text file to your post directly in option "Reply" - not Quick Reply

In addition  -  If you have it - disable the Rivatuner overlay
    Turn off Rivatuner Statistics Server

( you will not see it working in the background  after last Windows update and nobody knows why)

    I don't work for EA

@kreatora I was having the same Issue as described above. Disabling Rivatuner Statistics Server resolved this issue.
    Thank you!!
