Sims 4 crashing: An error on our end caused the launch to fail.

My game keeps crashing.

Sometimes it fails to launch and displays the 'An error on our end caused the launch to fail on our end'. Sometimes it will load, then crash within 1-20 mins, with no error message (no particular item, sim, location or action appears to trigger this).

I have done the following and the issue persists:

  • Updated the game
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled the game (I have all expansion and game packs, and most kits etc)
  • Repaired the game
  • Started a new game
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled the EA app
  • Updated graphics drivers
  • Updated Windows
  • Restarted the PC
  • Removed all mods and custom content
  • Disabled in game overlay notifications via EA app
  • Lowered graphics settings

I have attached my lastcrash and lastexception files - would appreciate any help as I am at a loss of what else to try.

  • Batkrook92  The python37_x64.dll error is what we normally see with with your class of CPU.  Since updating the BIOS didn't help, please boot into BIOS, open the Advanced settings, and look for a CPU Turbo Boost setting or similar.  If you see it, disable it, then test the game again.

If you're not sure what you're looking at, feel free to list the settings you find.  I can't tell you what's there because each BIOS is a bit different, some are wildly different even from the same manufacturer, and they can change with updates (and those changes don't always make it into the documentation).  But it's easy to figure out what a particular setting does once you know its name.

  • Batkrook92  Do you get a lastexception with every crash, or just some of them?  I will ask around about this LE itself (I recognize it but don't know exactly what causes it), but it would be good to know from your end whether it's always associated with these crashes or only sometimes.

Your dxdiag doesn't list any Sims 4-related errors, but given your high-end processor, you might be getting the type of crash that happens frequently on this CPU.  Since the first troubleshooting step for this is to update the BIOS for your motherboard, and it's good to do this anyway, please try that first.  I believe this is your board:

    https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-Z790-P-WIFI/support

But double-check the model number of the board itself before downloading anything.  I also can't see whether you already have the newest BIOS because the support site lists them differently than the dxdiag, but hopefully the system will report a version that matches something on the site.

If this doesn't help, and the game crashes again, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Click Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

  • Batkrook92  Please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

One cause of the "failed to launch game" error is trying to launch it after it's crashed and without restarting your computer first, in case that's relevant.

The lastexception and lastcrash files didn't attach, likely because this site flags them due to the first line of text.  I can't actually do anything with a lastcrash, but if you want to provide a lastexception, you can delete that first line and try to attach it again.  Or you can copy the text of the file and paste it into a reply.
