Sims 4 crashing before main menu

So I updated to the latest version of Sims 4, disabled all mods and stuff before doing so. I open the game and cant get past the startup animation then loading for a bit before it closes with no acknowledgement of a crash. I honestly have no clue whats wrong with my game since ive never had an issue like this before but it surely isn’t my cc/mods. I just want to go one day without my game going to complete crap dawg

  • JyNxYmIsTy  This is another access violation, still too generic to help here (when mods aren't involved, at least).  But try playing in DirectX 11 mode.  If you've switched to DX9 mode within the game settings, uncheck that box again.  If you've switched through the EA App, remove the -dx9 command line argument under Sims 4 > Manage > View properties.

If that doesn't help, I'd suggest doing a clean uninstall and reinstall of Sims 4.  Instructions are in the accepted solution of this thread:

[CURRENT ISSUE] Sims 4 DLC shows as installed, won't load in-game | EA Forums - 11831673

Anchors don't work on this site at the moment, so use ctrl-F to search for revo and jump to the relevant section.  The thread itself is for a different issue, but the uninstall process is the same.

ObanTheForg geminic0528  Please create your own threads in the PC tech section describing your issue and listing the troubleshooting steps you've taken so far.  The first one would be a clean user folder: move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and try to play with no added content.

Please also attach a dxdiag to your post, as described earlier in this thread.

  • The whole problem is I cant get past this little loading screen that goes to the “resume game, load” ect screen with the main menu, so I cant change anything in the settings let alone get to the screen i need to go to for that :(
I also have my sims on an external drive and had a previous problem where it would say "Sims 4 already running" and fixed that, will this mean I have to do the same steps to transfer it to my drive and risk getting this error again?

  • JyNxYmIsTy  Sorry for the late reply; I've been away from the forums for a while.

I understand you can't (or couldn't) get to the Main Menu, which is why I suggested changing the setting in the EA App if necessary.  The thing is, the game wouldn't be running in DirectX 9 mode on its own, so you had to change a setting somewhere, either in the App or within the game itself.  A clean user folder would take care of any settings you'd specified within the game, at least until you changed something again, but it wouldn't affect the App settings.

If you still need help, please let me know what is currently happening when you try to play, and provide a new dxdiag as well.
