Sims 4 cursor freezing at Main Menu

I'm having the same exact problem too

  • Smokeahontis  Then please provide a dxdiag as well.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • Smokeahontis  I believe the issue here is that your laptop doesn't have much RAM or storage, both overall and available.  While 4 GB memory meets the minimum requirements for Sims 4, it's often not enough for the game plus everything else running in the background.

The page file is where excess data goes that should be in RAM but doesn't fit, and that's small (and almost all used) because it's carved out of the C drive, which is also small and almost all used.  So that extra data doesn't have anywhere to go, which means some of it gets dropped.

Point is, I'm not sure how much I can help here, although I'll certainly try.  The first step is for you to clear as much space as you can on your internal drive, which I realize is not easy given how small it is in the first place.  If you've left your Sims 4 user folder, with saves and other user data, on your internal drive, where it would be by default, I'd suggest moving it to your external drive, like this:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2020/02/moving-windows-documents-folder-to-external-drive-via-symbolic-link.html

Let me know if you need help with the process, and if you do, stop here and ask rather than moving on to the next steps.

An additional way to free up space is with Cleanup recommendations or Storage Sense, both built into Windows.  Both are covered here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/free-up-drive-space-in-windows-85529ccb-c365-490d-b548-831022bc9b32

If you manage to clear at least another 10 GB, for a total of 20, please increase the size of the page file, as described here (option three):

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/manage-virtual-memory-paging-file-in-windows-11.8618/#Three

Set the minimum to 8092 and the maximum to 12288, and restart your computer.  Then try again to play and let me know how it goes.

My game runs just fine with mods and tons of CC without any gameplay lag issues. The absolute ONLY issue I have is when my game loads up, at the main screen where you select whether to continue your game or start a new one, the cursor freezes for about 2 minutes. After that everything is fine. It started after this last update for me.

    But thanks.

  • Smokeahontis  The issues in the dxdiag are real, and they wouldn't necessarily be a problem all of the time.  If you don't want to do everything I suggested, fine, but I don't know how else to help without trying to address what's right in front of me.
