Sims 4 folder in the wrong place, may be causing mods to not show up.

I've realized that my sims 4 programs folder (the one with the expansion folders) is in the wrong place. It is in my documents folder where my folder with mods and installed worlds is supposed to be, that folder is in a whole different user (the public account user). I know its a little confusing but it's stressing me out and none of my mods show up no matter what I do. This really only became such an issue after the new update even though the folders were still messed up before the update. I've tried everything to get my mods back though I just want help.

UPDATE: the cc and mods sims 4 folder is COMPLETELY MISSING!!! HELP!!

  • Meksemeji  I would start by uninstalling the game from Documents and reinstalling it into Program Files, or wherever you want that isn't Documents.  Once you've done that, see whether the game creates or starts reading a user folder in Documents > Electronic Arts.

If the game is still reading the Public Documents folder, please let me know what Windows thinks is the Documents directory.  (There are several Documents folders, as you've seen, but only one is designated as the user's directory.)  Search in Windows for Command Prompt, open it, enter this command:

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

and post the result.  You can write [username] instead of your actual username, if applicable, but please leave the rest intact.

Ok I've successfully managed to change the directory of the program files to the proper folder however running my game did not bring the document files back. This is the result.

Also net positive and negative that I've discovered.  I found my sims 4 document folder in the trash so I had it recovered and it had screenshots from a previous save file. However just like how mods don't appear in-game, my saves are visible in the files but they completely disappear in game. This is sad I really can't play without a long lasting save.

  • Meksemeji  Are you placing the saves in the folder the game is currently reading?  It could still be reading Public Documents, so double-check in-game:

Additionally, do you use OneDrive at all?  If not, or if you'd like to get rid of it, it's simple enough to move your Documents directory out of the OneDrive folder, and Sims 4 should follow suit.  Please follow the instructions in the relevant section of this guide:
