Sims 4 FPS drops

Hi,

I have been suffering from a lot of fps drops lately in The Sims 4 that are annoying. I have atleast one when I have just loaded into my family and often when entering build & buy mode. I only have to press ESC to get rid of the fps drop but it is annoying when u have to do that quite often while playing. AFAIK this is a game related issue because I have seen a lot of others with this same issue and it has been around for one and a half year but has gotten worse even though I have started new saves and done clean resets, others have been saying it too that it is a game related issue with no fix but I still hope to get some help here. I do play with a lot of mods at the moment and I own all packs except Journey to Batuu and the Courtyard Oasis kit. I first noticed this issue when playing with the Eco Lifestyle pack and has gotten worse since. I have gotten a new PC in the time between Eco Lifestyle and now and my game is on a SSD. If needed I can look into my specs and post them here but I do use the Geforce Experience recommended settings for TS4 which are the highest/ultra settings in my case and my PC can easily handle The Sims 4 because my loading screens are very short and my game runs very smoothly besides these issues. I really hope someone can help me and others with this issue out and any help is appreciated.

Already thanks!

  • @Aesthetixtect  Do you see any fps drops aside from when the game initially loads and when you enter Build/Buy?  The latter has its own bug report:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-PC-MAC-Massive-Lag-when-entering-and-exiting-BuyBuild-Mode/td-p/9204644

If that's your main issue, there may not be much you can do about it.  If you see lag at other times though, please let me know whether you've noticed a pattern: which world(s), how many sims on the lot, what sim-time of day, that sort of thing.

Please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@puzzlezaddictJust a quick update I have attached my dxdiag file but I don't seem to catch any fps drops anymore which is really strange but there is a huge lag when you enter build & buy mode while live mode is on 3 times faster speed. The FPS drops I used to have did happen randomly but some also happened for example when the voting closed or like I just said when you enter build & buy mode under certain circumstances. I did make some changes on my lot after I made this post like making the house smaller but I don't know if those ones actually affected my game.

@Aesthetixtect  Your dxdiag shows a couple of Sims 4 errors that might be related to the graphics driver, and a couple of Origin errors that are probably related to Origin being annoying.  The Sims 4 errors could be a bit older, and your graphics driver is new, so whatever problem there was may have already been addressed by a driver update.  For Origin, you can try clearing its cache, uninstalling "the hard way," and reinstalling:

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/manually-uninstalling-origin/

However, if most of the lag has resolved itself, you may not need to do anything.  You can certainly click Me Too and post in the bug thread about lag when entering Build/Buy, but there's no good solution to that as of yet.  Lag when NAP voting closes is normal and also can't be avoided, that is unless you want to disable the entire system.  And if you simplified your sims' house, that could have helped a lot too.

Ultimately, it doesn't look like you need to do anything much here other than potentially clean uninstalling and reinstalling Origin.

  • Replying to this because this is the latest thread. If there is a main thread, pls link it.

I have seen this lag/fps drop issue for months, in live mode, build mode and CAS.  And you see it happen to some of the well known Sims YouTubers, like James Turner and Deligracy.

It used to be that you can open up the options menu or clear the notification walls and the lag would be fixed. This works sometimes, but other times, nothing works except saving and exiting to the main menu and reloading again.

I don't know what events in the game would have caused this - it feels really random, and frequent.

@NykoIaz  There are a lot of causes of fps drops, some related to system issues (hardware or software), some because Sims 4 is what it is.  Have you noticed any patterns to the fps drops in live mode?  For example, maybe they happen at the same sim-time every day or week, or only when your sims are on certain lots, or when there are a number of sims on the active lot.  Do you use mods or custom content, and if so, have you tested without it?  You don't need to save your progress.

Please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.
