Sims 4 General Lag

Hello! Recently my Sims 4 game has been lagging TREMENDOUSLY! My graphics are on low, i have online features ticked off, i’ve removed my screenshots and removed my cache and it still lags. my game is...

    @cyberstxr  Okay, so there's nothing else that's using too much RAM all by itself.  Just out of curiosity, please use this guide to check whether your system's page file is dynamic or artificially capped:

    (I can't find a good guide for Windows 11 that isn't behind a paywall, but this one should work fine.)  Specifically, in step 6, let me know whether the box to automatically manage page file size is checked or not.  You don't need to change anything yet; this is just so I know.

    For the issue itself, I'd like to see the results of some hardware monitoring on this laptop.  Download hwinfo from here:

    You don't need to install anything; just download the portable version, unzip it in Downloads, and launch it from there or wherever you like.  (If you do want to use the full installer, be sure to click the button for hwinfo itself, not for lansweeper.)  Restart your computer, open hwinfo, and click the button that's a sheet of paper with a + sign to start logging.  Wait five minutes, then launch Sims 4 and play for at least 20 minutes, then click the same button to stop logging.  If the game lags for only part of the time, please let me know when that starts relative to when you started playing (e.g. the game was fine for six minutes and then...) so I can match it to the log data.

    Upload the log file to a third-party filehosting site and link it here. Please leave it in .csv format, or if you upload it to OneDrive, zip it first.

My Sims 4 game still lagged in a new save without any mods or cc in a base game world and offline. I also tried a new sims 4 folder. Whenever I send a dxidag to ea through the link, I've tried it before i went onto ea answers, it just had a bot response and answered with a response completely off the topic of lag. I'll attach a new dxdiag here. Thank you and please help!

@cyberstxr  First of all, you do NOT need to free up any space on your computer: 32 GB is more than enough to run Sims 4 without issues.

Your dxdiag is full of failed Windows updates, which, unless you're deliberately blocking them, means there's a problem preventing Windows from successfully updating itself.  So the place to start is with a couple of basic checks on your Windows system files:

  • Hit Windows key-X
  • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
  • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
  • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
  • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
  • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
  • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
  • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

If the game still lags, please try playing while your entire computer is offline.  You can sign into Origin and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

If that doesn't help either, please restart your computer, open the Task Manager (but nothing else yet), and in the Processes tab, let me know how much memory your system is using overall.  If it's more than about 50%, click the Startup tab, take a screenshot (hit Windows key-shift-S and drag your cursor over the window), and attach it to a post.

    I'm sorry for two separate reply's but I also did the task manager thing and heres the screenshot.

      @cyberstxr  In your screenshot, please click the Startup tab and take a screenshot of what shows up there too.  Your computer is using almost all its memory just on startup, leaving so little for Sims 4 that it's no wonder the game lags.  (Windows will shift things around a bit to give the game more resources, but it's probably still not nearly enough.)

      And let me know how much RAM is being used (same screenshot as you posted this time) before you open anything else.

        I'm not sure how to look at my RAM. Also, I updated my pc, (I did it manually in advanced mode) and it did make the game lag less but it still lags.
