Sims 4 just freezes up

Instead of actually moving intro graphics, the screen shows a static picture and after a minute, another one. Most of the time, the mouse cursor doesn't move, the rest of the time it disappears altogether. In short, the game essentially freeze up and doesn't work. This happened after I downloaded both a game update and installed the new hobbies pack.

I have no mods and I only installed that which I had to. And yet, it no longer works.
