Sims 4 won't launch, breaks apps

Sorry if this isn't the way to do this I've never used this but I'm so frustrated rn. My Sims game has had problems since the start and this is the latest one and I can't figure out how to fix it. I'd gotten it fixed after the update and played it just fine, then shut off my computer. Came back, and now it won't launch to the main menu, it just stays on the opening screen (before the plumbob) until it crashes. When I try to close it on Task Manager, TM breaks afterwards. When I try to load up EA app it won't open anymore, not matter how I try to open it. I've done the thing of using a clean Sims 4 to try and launch, and same thing happens. Any help is appreciated.

  • RobiinByrd22  How does the Task Manager break?  Can you close it and open it again?  If so, try killing any EA-related entries, including the EABackgroundService in the background processes list.  That may be the reason the EA App won't open again.

Since the clean user folder didn't fix the primary issue, I'd also like to see a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I try to kill all Sims/EA tasks, and it ends up freezing and crashing. Here's my dxdiag!

  • RobiinByrd22  Please plug your monitor directly into the graphics card, not into the motherboard as you've currently done.  Then let me know what problems are still present.

... I won't lie, I didn't know that was even a thing (this is my first gaming PC and it's all been trial and error so far so sorry if that's a rookie error 😅). I switched it around and after updating, everything seems to be up and running again. Thank you sm!

  • RobiinByrd22  You are far from the first person to make this mistake, and you won't be the last.  (You're not even the only person who showed up with this issue yesterday.)  So don't feel bad; now you know.  And sometimes trial and error is the best way to learn.

    Anyway, enjoy your game.
