Sims 4 keeps crashing

The main menu loads fine and I am able to load into my household. I am currently building an apartment so when I open build mode, the game crashes anywhere from seconds to a few minutes after me playing. Just repaired the game and restarted my laptop, but beyond that I am not sure what to do to fix this. I do have mods installed but very few, and only for CAS.

  • emmawks13  Please test with your Mods folder removed, just to be thorough.  It should be an easy test given how quickly the game crashes, and you don't need to save your progress.

If you get a crash with no mods or cc present, try building on a different lot, this time in one of the base game worlds.

If you get yet another crash, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I tried removing my mods folder and building in a base game world but experienced crashes both times.

    Here is my dxdiag:

  • emmawks13  The main issue is that Sims 4 in DirectX 9 mode isn't compatible with your laptop's graphics chip and driver.  DirectX 11 mode should work.  However, since the driver is a bit old, and a component of your sound driver is also crashing, it would be best to try to update both.  Go here:

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/laptops

Enter your serial number, choose your OS (just Windows 11 is fine) if prompted, click All Drivers, expand Driver-Graphics, and download the newest Intel driver by version number.  The first number matters most, e.g. 32 is newer than 31; after that, the last four numbers matter.  Do the same with the audio or sound driver; I'm not sure how the site will list it.  Restart your laptop after installing the drivers and before doing anything else.

If you're not sure what you're looking at, feel free to link the download page.  It doesn't contain any personal information, only drivers for the overall model.

If you install the new drivers and the game still crashes, switch to DX11 mode, as described here:
