Sims 4 MAC overheating during gameplay

I have an imac that's about 4 years old, I installed the game and played it for about 1 1/2 hours and my mac just completely shut off. Finally I realized it shut off because it overheated, which has never happened before. Played again an hour later and the same thing happened but this time only 20 minutes into the game. Now I think it caused some I permanent problems to my mac because it overheats without the game running now. Again, I've never had this problem up until I played the sims 4 on my computer.

Here's my MAC info:

Processor 2.7 GHz intel core i5
Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 mb
OS X 10.9.5

  • Do you have an Apple store near you? If so, and upgrading to Yosemite doesn't work, make an appointment at the Genius bar for them to look at it.

It would be worth checking where the RAM is seated for over clogging of dust and fluff too. You can find this on the underneath of the screen. There will be 3 little screws which you can undo safely in the middle. You'll see the RAM chips slotted in. Don't touch them but just gently blow away any fluff that's accumulated (do this while your Mac is off). Also gently blow away any fluff you can see in the vent on the back at the top.
