sims 4 not downloading

I've been trying to redownload the sims 4 onto my laptop and an error message keeps coming up "something went wrong with the download". I've cleared cache, restarted the app, restarted the laptop and now i'm trying it on a micro sd card. i know it is not recommended but I thought it may have been due to there not being enough GB in the laptop. Nothing is working. Do I have to uninstall and reinstall the EA app too? I never had this much problem with the origin app. The EA app has been nothing but a nightmare from the start.

  • @ClandestineSims  How much free space do you currently have on the laptop?  You can see by opening a File Explorer window and clicking This PC in the left panel.

    And no, it's not recommended to install Sims 4 on an SD card.  This error may have nothing to do with free storage either, in which case using the SD card won't help.

    I would suggest uninstalling the EA App with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine), and also check to see whether Revo lists Sims 4 as installed.  If so, uninstall it too.

    @puzzlezaddict

    Hi,

    Thank you for the info. I currently have 70.6 GB left. I had the Sims 4 installed on my laptop for a while but because of how every update was becoming hellish with needing to move my saves folder and the small number of mods I had just to make space available for the update. And I thought of using the SD card as a temporary solution while I saved up to either upgrade my ssd or buy a laptop with more GB (which frankly I would rather avoid because my laptop is in great working condition.) And every windows update Lzo takes away more space which is quite frustrating. I have a USB flash drive but it's full of our wedding pictures.

    @ClandestineSims  The Sims 4 base game uses 20 GB, and the game with all packs is around 60.  So you definitely have space for the base game, but adding all packs would be pushing it.

    How large is this SSD overall, and what else is taking up space?  If you have a 128 GB drive, 70 GB free would be reasonable with very little installed, but anything larger should have more free storage.  That in turn could mean there's something else taking up a significant amount of space that you could remove.

    If you want to investigate, open a File Explorer window, click This PC, double-click C, and look at the sizes of the various folders.  For that, right-click a folder and select Properties > General; you'll see the total file size there.  If a folder is suspiciously large, open it and check the subfolders until you find the culprit.

    As an example, I recently had someone realize that an entire second copy of Sims 4 was installed under Program Files (x86)\Origin Games.  The EA App wasn't recognizing that install and was trying to reinstall to Program Files\EA Games, and this person's computer was running out of space as a result.

    I'm not suggesting you delete anything, other than maybe an existing unrecognized Sims 4 install, unless you know exactly what it is and that you don't need it.  If you're not sure what you're looking at, just let me know what you've found and how large it is.

    Windows updates do temporarily use more space, but the overall difference should be very small soon afterwards.  Windows does keep extra data on hand should users want to roll back, but only for a week or so; after that, the space should be freed up again.

    @puzzlezaddict I have a lenovo do not sure if it's because of the make and model or if its just me being brainless but my windows seems to keep the previous data until I go and manually delete them. By the way my laptop has about 8 Microsoft Visual C+ + ( two are from 2010, 1 from 2012, 3 from 2013, and two from 2015-2022) do I need that many?

    @ClandestineSims  Yes, you need that many VC++ runtimes if they're installed.  They only get installed when a program (a game like Sims 4, or sometimes another app that does graphics processing) requires them.  The 2022 runtimes cover everything from 2015 to today, but not the older ones.  Older apps that were built with previous versions need those versions, not the newer ones.

    I would still like to know how much total storage your computer has and whether you can find any suspiciously large folders.

    The total GB on my windows SSD C Drive I 117GB. I'm trying to find any large files like you suggested. I'll let you know about anything suspicious. I have managed to download the Sims 4 again but yeah it has already taken 30GB as I'm downloading all the DLCs to see exactly how much space it will take in total.
