Sims 4 saves missing after changing computers

My old computer can no longer run the sims, having this happen I moved to another computer as well as my saves. When I finally got my saves in the game, I found that the saves I have spent hours and hours on are missing. I've looked through the hard drive and the files I put in and they're all the same. Since I can no longer open the sims on my old computer, the best I can do is to open the files and see if all of them transferred over. Before I moved computers, I had constantly contacted help to try and get my game to open. When i do try to open my game, it minimizes and won't go full screen no matter what I do. Eventually, the game will show a white screen with the music in the background. There was a few ways to get the game to open, but sadly I would have to repeat it every time I tried to open the game. I will appreciate any help possible with this, these two saves are my comfort saves and i have been looking forward to playing them again for weeks. Tomorrow, I am going to my old computer to try and find the logs to previous chats to open my game, if that fails, I will look through my files to see if any are missing, even though I picked up my whole game and copied it.

  • @naturegirl300  Does the game work on your new computer?  From your description, it sounds like the problems running Sims 4 are limited to the old computer, but I want to make sure.

If the game works (minus your missing saves) on the new computer, please create a new save.  You don't need to spend much time on it; this is just for testing.  Save your progress, exit to the Main Menu, click Load Game, and hover over the folder icon for the save you've just created.  That will show you where the corresponding save file is located.  Your other saves need to be in that same location.

By the way, if the new save has exactly the same name as one of your old ones, you'll want to change the name of the new save before moving the other files over.  Your operating system won't allow two files with the same name in the same location.

@puzzlezaddict Hello, I apologize if I have bad descriptions, explaining things correctly is something I struggle with. The new computer can run the sims, it seems that it was just the old one that could no longer open it, this started after I downloaded University. I did as you said and started a new save etc. The save is in the same location as the ones I put into the game. This morning I looked through the files on my old computer to find all of them in the exact same spot as the thumb drive, I am soon going to try and get my game to open one last time to see if the saves are still in game.

@puzzlezaddict Hello dear friend, I was able to get into my old computers game to find that the files are missing from there as well. I’ve decided to let this go. Thank you for your time and I hope your days will live on in peace.

@naturegirl300  One other thing to check is the names of the old saves.  They need to be named with an eight-digit hexidecimal number and not have any extra suffix on the end.  For example, these names work:

    Slot_00000002.save

    Slot_0000000c.save

    Slot_00000015.save

    These do not:

    Slot_00000002.save.ver0

    Slot_0002.save

    Slot_00000002.save 28

    Slot_00000002.save [computer name here]

If you don't want to try anymore, I'm sorry that your saves are gone.  Please do make backups of your new saves going forward, so you never lose all your content again.
