Sims 4 Unseemingly Crashing--DxDiag Attached

Hi all, I was playing the Sims 4 on my 6 year old MacBook with no problems and wanted to reboot it on my gaming PC. I've completely updated the game and repaired it but nothing seems to be helping. Sometimes it crashes when I take pictures on the phone in game, other times it's really random and will shut my whole computer down.

I have Windows 11, I just updated my GeForce GTX 1660 Super in September, and I'm running on Intel Core 7.

I have tried opening a ticket with EA but no response, so I'm hoping someone here can give me a hand!

Thank you!!

  • @loweeza17  I see a few BlueScreens in your dxdiag.  Are they happening when you're playing Sims 4, or in other contexts, or are you not sure?

In any case, please start with a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

Please also do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the Nvidia graphics driver, a component of which is crashing as well.  Here's how:

You can get a fresh copy of the newest Nvidia driver here:

If this doesn't help, please post a new dxdiag.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

AFIK I haven't run into any blue screens. Maybe they happen quickly before my game quits on me. I have been gaming on my Xbox lately and haven't really been using my PC.

Ran the Restorehealth with a restore operation completed successfully.

Scannow says Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Had one update and restarted successfully.

Ran the DDU without running safe mode restart because I don't use special characters or anything special with my keyboard. It ran successfully with a few black screens popping up which I am guessing is normal while removing the drive. There were some background programs which wouldn't let me stop running them but otherwise I followed the rest of the NVIDIA reinstall instructions. The reinstall worked fine after I rebooted my computer.

When I started TS4 there was a download it had to complete. The EA launcher stayed in "Preparing Game" for quite awhile but it launched okay. I played for a few minutes, tested using the camera with no problem and did some tasks. Sat down to the computer to order seeds for the event and then promptly crashed.

Thanks again for continuing to help me!

  • ETA: Also FYI I redownloaded World of Warcraft and played for about an hour with absolutely no trouble. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the event that is going on? Thanks!

@loweeza17  Your new dxdiag shows more crashes of the graphics driver, both the same kind as before and a new type.  Since you already clean-uninstalled the driver, the next question is whether your graphics card is working properly.  Do you have access to another GPU you could test with, or access to another system where you could install this one?  That would be the most conclusive test—if the card doesn't work in a different system that otherwise runs fine, or a different GPU works in your system, that's a pretty clear sign.

Your CPU doesn't have integrated graphics, unfortunately, so that's out, but you can really test with any GPU that doesn't require more juice than your power supply can provide.  And your card doesn't need a lot of power either, just one supplemental 8-pin connector and a 300W PSU overall.
