Sims 4 will not close

Every time that I go to close my sims game it refuses to close. I have tried opening other things with the game still open and it just stays open on top of them. I can't even open the task manager to close it and the only way to close the game is to completely shut off my laptop. This has only happened the last few times that I hve played so it is a fairly new accurance and I have tried everything to fix it. What do I do?

  • @Leelosingmarbles  First of all, instead of shutting down your laptop, you can hit crtl-alt-delete and choose "sign out" instead of trying to open the Task Manager.  This will throw you back to the login screen and also close any running programs, including Sims 4.

For the game issue itself, does Sims 4 ever freeze other than when you're trying to close it?  Does it only freeze when you use "save and exit," or also when you try to exit without saving?  Please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post as well.

  • It does freeze just before closing but it has always done that, even on other computers. I usually just wait for it to close out and it'll give me the little spinning wheel thing on the mouse. However, for some reason, it hasn't been doing that at all.

@Leelosingmarbles  Please answer a few other questions:

    • Does the game ever freeze at any other point, as in not when you're trying to quit?
    • Does the game freeze if you click "exit without saving"?
    • Do you use OneDrive?
    • Does the game freeze if you play while your computer is offline?  You can sign into Origin and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.
  • The game only ever freezes if I click "exit without saving" or "save and exit".

    I do not use OneDrive

The game does not freeze if I play offline, I've played the game a few times offline like on a plane and while the power was out.

@Leelosingmarbles  Please try playing while your computer is online but Origin is in offline mode and let me know whether you get a freeze.  If you do, please try playing in a clean boot, again with Origin offline but your computer online.

When you reboot, go through the Task Manager's background processes list and shut down anything that doesn't absolutely need to be enabled.  If you kill the wrong process by accident and it doesn't restart automatically, just reboot your computer.

I'm actually going to crash out soon I have been trying for days to close my Sims 4 window because it froze on the loading screen, and it won't work I swear I also tried to uninstall EA, but I can't do it if the game is still open not to say that I can't restart my computer because I have unfinished homework to do but to be honest, I could just finish my homework then play the sims this is such a headache please share any help.

  • fq3d6ao1h4zc  You can finish your homework, then restart.  Use alt-tab to switch screens.

You can also use ctrl-alt-delete to bring up the Task Manager and shut the game.
