Game Keeps Crashing/Freezing

I have no custom content and have restarted my computer and the app plenty of times. 

After an update over the weekend, my game will either crash or freeze whenever I am in build mode. It begins with me trying to move things around on my lot and noticing that items were not snapping, deleting or able to be placed in my inventory. I have tried to build rooms but the walls were not showing up and I am unable to expand foundations or pre-existing rooms. Thinking my save file was at risk, I tried saving the game and exiting. The game gets stuck on that screen and I have to force quit using task manager. The second time I tried to build, after restarting the game and my computer, the same thing happened. It also happened again the third and fourth. By the fifth time I decided to just play the game but after exiting build mode the game would not un-pause and the clock will not start. The music continued to play and my child sim had automatically returned from school--losing "responsibility."  

Not sure what the update was, but it has definitely broken the game.
