@crinrict Yeah, it was Windows. I'm only using Windows, my Norton expired. Before updating, I removed my mods completely. Also, before updating, my game worked perfectly fine. Kind of regretting the choice to update now in hindsight...
I've cleared caches, I've tried running as administrator, I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling both Origin and the game itself. It won't even let me into the game long enough to generate a new sims folder so I could /attempt/ moving that one and creating a new one... I took the steps in the video the user above your comment left me but idk how that worked out ( I did try it but it didn't seem to work either, but I can't tell if it is because it's just not going to or because I stopped the repair last night and shut down my laptop and it was just finishing / redoing that...) I've also updated my computer. I don't know what else to do. I've seen other users talk about the visual c++ thing, and I did try that, but honestly, idk if it helped.
The thing is, I'm not getting any kind of error codes like the others who have this issue seem to be. It literally just does what I've listed out below.
Whenever I'd try to start the game all evening yesterday after updating, the little windows window would pop up and it'd ask if x64 had permission to do something (I never was quick enough to catch what, exactly but I think it was to make changes) so I'd click yes. The game would then 'think' about starting (without ever actually opening, of course) but the play button would pop back out on the origin app as if I hadn't even clicked on it.
I don't know if I can get a screenshot, because I tried to last night and whenever that box comes up its like I can't? Like I told the previous responder, I now have to finish the repair I started last night before crashing, but I tried their fix. I have a feeling it won't work though. I'll try to get a screengrab next time it happens, maybe I just did it wrong.
