Sims keep crashing after last update

I was playing The Sims last night with no issues and saved my game as usual. This morning, after updating the game, it started crashing about 5 seconds into loading, showing an error message. I’ve already removed all my mods and CC to test, and it seems the game only crashes when I try to load the old save file. If I restarted the game with completely new save, it works but as soon as I put my old saves, it crashes. Everything was fine before the update, I didn’t change anything else. There was a lot of progress in that save, so I really don’t want to start over. Has anyone experienced this or know how to fix it?

  • The same thing happened to me after the update and it worked when I tried a new save file as well. But, I make copies of my "saves" and "tray" folders every other day so I tried my copy save folder I made on the 27th and it also worked, although I didn't use it. I'm not sure if you tried it but what I did is go into the "saves" folder of the save that kept crashing and first removed the file ending in ".save."

I then picked the most recent ".save.ver(insert number) backup file which is ".save.ver0" (but you can choose any of them) and removed the ".ver0" part of the file name and it then converted into a save file type.  Doing that loaded it back to the second most recent save state and it worked fine for me but you may or not have to try with the other versions if that one doesn't work.

  • Kurutta77  Would you be willing to share an affected save with me, or with Maxis QA?  If so, please upload the save to a filesharing site (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) and either PM me the link or post it here.  I won't share it with anyone you don't okay in advance, but it would almost certainly be useful for QA to have examples of affected saves.

Thank you. I tried that method and was able to see my most recent save file in the Load Game menu. However, when I click ‘Play,’ the game crashes and exits, just like before. Even when I use the ‘Recover Save’ option with that latest file, the game still crashes upon launching it.

  • Guys it worked for me only when i did this specific thing :
    1. You remove your saves
    2. Load the game again and play a little until it creates a new save, change the end to another number so that it won't be the same as any of your olders saves
    3. Activate the CC in the settings ! Usually when there is an update it tells you that your cc where deactivated and that you need to activate them again the settings. You just have to do this.
    4. Put your saves again in the folder
    5. Load the game again, play your save and it should work !

leoni_bnd I can do till step 5, load game but when I click play, it crashes like before. :( I could only play my another saved file from last year but that would mean I will lose all my current progress. Hope they fix this soon.

  • Kurutta77  I passed along your saves, since I figure your posting publicly means you don't mind who sees them.  I reproduced the error with an un-updated game, but on a computer that didn't have Life & Death installed, so it's not really a valid test.  I did manage to install L&D without updating, but it won't load in-game until I load the game while online, which I can't do without updating.

Anyway, I'll poke at it more after updating, which I'll do if I don't see any other players' saves that are worth testing on the previous patch level.  But the important thing is that EA has the saves.  Thanks so much for sharing them.
