Start up issue

Hi There,

I've been having a problem with starting up Sims 4. Very frustrating after the last update in April.

I have deleted and reinstalled my game and add-ons. repaired and deleted all my mods and even deleted the Overwolf/Curseforge application. I've tried running my system on Dx9,11 and 12 but no joy. I do have Nvidia but from what I've seen from what people have posted there was some issue with that. I'm no computer fundi, so have no real idea what I'm doing.

Basically, my game doesn't reach the main menu to enter my saves, it keeps cutting out. I've been playing sims 3 in the meantime to ease my addiction.

I would appreciate some assistance.

With the birthday special that happened I wasn't even able to participate as why purchase something I can't use...

  • MCWait  Please remove your saves folder from Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and see whether you can play.  If this helps, you likely have this issue:

Crashes on Mainmenu | EA Forums - 12139111

If his doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

rebekahssims  Did you delete the saves folder as well?  If not, please remove it now.  If that doesn't or didn't help, please provide a dxdiag, as described above.

I am having the same problem you are. Yesterday I uninstalled and reinstalled along with one add-on.. I played for a few hours and then today it is back doing the same thing. I have also tried what they are saying to do above with no luck at all.

  • rebekahssims  I did have another suggestion, but I guess you went for the nuclear option instead?  What happens now when you try to play?  And do you currently have a third-party antivirus running on your computer?

Please also post a new dxdiag, since the old one would necessarily be stale after the factory reset.

semra3  Please describe what you see when you try to play.  If you get any kind of error message, post a screenshot.  And provide a dxdiag as well, as described earlier in the thread.

I tried everything that’s been suggested, I thought a full reset would sort the problem but it didn’t haha. Sims is still doing the same, on the loading screen looks like it’s loading then freezes and closes down. Doesn’t show on perfmon /rel for some reason? I currently have no antivirus since factory reset.

puzzlezaddict The game did not load for me at all.. It basically just went back to the steam/ea start screens. I did however uninstall both the game and my ea app and reinstalled both. So far, so good it is working now.

  • semra3  Glad to hear you've fixed it.

rebekahssims  I don't see any Sims 4-related errors in this dxdiag either, which typically means the game is being blocked from starting rather than that it's crashing.  An antivirus can do that, but it's not the only cause.  So I'd like to know whether the game opens in a different Windows account.

Please create a new admin Windows account, and make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account or any email address.  Use only letters (and possibly numbers) in the name, and only those you'd see in the Roman alphabet, no accents or anything else like that.

You should be able to at least try to launch Sims 4 without reinstalling anything, but if you can't, or this doesn't help, please let me know where the game is installed.  You can see that in the EA App, under Sims 4 > Manage > View properties.
