Stuck on saved screen

Hello! I recently had one problem pertaining to continuous loading solved, but now have another. Whenever I try to save to the game, it goes to the save screen, then just loads forever. I've tried removing all mods and then playing, but the same problem persists. I put the mods back, then tried again but that didn't help. I also tried clearing localthumbcache, and reloading to my last saved file according to this help process, but nothing seems to help it. I got rid of a good chunk of mods to see if it was caused by something like a lack of space and also tried to save more often between in-game hours to see if it was just too much information to save at once, but those didn't help either.

I don't know if it matters, but the solution to my last loading issue had something to do with cooking mods, so I already checked to see if those were the cause, but nothing I did seemed to help the problem. If nothing else, is there a way to force save the game through its frozen loading? I hate to make so much process just to have it be undone when I try to save it.

@o32eba059otc  The file path looks fine.  How large is the save file?  When you were playing the other households within this save, were you testing with or without mods and custom content?  It would be unusual for other households within that save to initially be fine but corrupt later—usually they either load or they don't.

You can also try moving your main household to a different lot in the same save.  This can help when the original problem is an object somewhere on the current lot, and if it doesn't help, that points to a problem with one or more sims.

  • @o32eba059otc  The first question is, does this happen in a new save as well, or only your current save?  Please test with no mods, then with mods, and let me know.  This is not to say that you need to abandon your current save, only that the possible causes are quite different depending on whether a new save is affected.

@puzzlezaddict Hello, Yes. There was one save that seemed especially difficult so I made a new one, but the problem persists. I removed all the mods from the mod folder and tied it to play for a bit then saved it, but it got stuck again.

@o32eba059otc  Is OneDrive running on your computer?  Whether you use it or not, look for the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen, and if it's there, right-click it and select Pause syncing, and choose whatever interval you want.  Then load Sims 4 and try again to save your progress.  Please try with the new save first, just to keep things simple; let me know whether you can save.

If you can't, or OneDrive isn't running, move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  If it copies instead of moving, or you get an error when trying to move it, stop here and let me know.

Otherwise, launch the game, which will create a new Sims 4 folder with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just start another new save and see whether you can save your progress.  If that works, copy over your previous new save and test it too.

@puzzlezaddict It was, and I turned it off. However, it did not help my game to save. I thought I might been doing too much at once, but I tried to load a file, do one interaction, and then save, and it still got stuck. I didn't move on to do the second thing because it sounded more like that's what I should've done if the one drive wasn't running in the first case, and just wanted to double-check. Should I try to move the folder now?

@o32eba059otc Update, I did as you said and removed the Sims 4 folder from the EA folder onto my desktop, then ran the game. It worked fine, so I slowly started adding things back in using a 50/50 kind of method until I added everything back in, both mod and tray files. Then I made a new household to make sure everything ran smoothly. After I played for about an hour, saving multiple times throughout, I tried to add the initial save file back in. It did not want to save. Then, I removed all mods completely and tried to play the household, and it would not work. I'm almost 100% sure that the problem is completely dependent on this file, spreading from one household.

@o32eba059otc  Can you save if you load a different household within the same affected save?  When you're testing a different save, do you quit Sims 4 and restart your computer in between?  It would be odd for one save's problems to affect others, although there are a few possible reasons that might be true.  Restarting your computer could help with some of them.

Just for good measure, please also list the full file path to the user folder as the game itself sees it.  Here's how to find it:

Hello, sorry for such delay. To my confusion, the problem seems to be resolved. I wish I could say what exactly did it. I think it must have had something to do with restarting my computer, which I hadn't been doing between each stage before. The first two times the issue was persistent, but after the fourth or fifth time, it started to run a little smoother, and then save regularly. I didn't want to say it was fixed too soon, because the last time I did it started messing up again, but it seems fine, or at least workable now. I do notice that around every fourth save per session, it still gets stuck, but honestly even that feels like a breath of fresh air after what I've been working with. Sorry for making a fuss over something that could've been solved with basic computer knowledge.

I'll still put my path here, just in case there's something that can be done to stop the game from freezing every third or fourth save, but if not, I'm glad it's at least going a bit easier. Thank you!

    C:\Users\lenovo\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves\Slot_00000002.save

Edit: to answer the other question, at first I could save other households in the same load file, then after a few days I couldn't save others either, which is still the case.

@puzzlezaddict I ended up moving them to a new lot and have not had any more problems since then. The game loads normally and doesn't get stuck while saving! Thank you
