TS4 keeps opening EA app instead of the actual game

Hello!

I've been having this issue where when I click on The Sims 4, it has my computer loading for a second, and then it opens the EA app instead of opening the game itself. Usually when I have this issue I only have to reset my computer once or twice and then it works, but it's been 8-9 resets and hours of me trying to figure this out. I'm really not sure what's happening and I'm a little stressed trying to figure it out. I've already checked Task Manager to see if it was running in the background, but I think it just won't open at all. I've also tried opening it from steam itself, but it doesn't change anything.

... help

If that doesn't help, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Taking it out of documents worked! But how do i get my saves and stuff back? I'm seeing doubles of The Sims 4 file, one in Desktop and the other in documents where it typically is.

So, I think I took a wrong turn, and now all of my data and mods that I've been collecting for five years are gone. 🙂

From here, test your mods and custom content first.  If you have a lot of files to test, the 50/50 method can make the process much more efficient.

Once you've done that, you can transfer the contents of the saves and Tray (saved households and builds) folders, plus Screenshots and Recorded Videos if you care about those.  The rest can be discarded.

If you can't find your saves, mods, etc., please open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, and enter Slot_ in the search field in the upper-right corner.  The search may take a while to finish.  When it's done, expand the window sideways so that you can see the full path to each result, then use Windows key-shift-S to take a screenshot, and post it here.

I don't need to see every single result, just enough to look for saves where they don't belong.  So one full window's worth of results should be sufficient.
