I have been having trouble playing the game before and after the update on 08/06/2026. My installation of the game has been fresh. I've tried renaming the Sims 4 folder to generate a new clean folder. The game starts, gets to the loading screen with the spinning green crystal on a blue background and crashes to desktop.
This is on a clean install. No mods.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
puzzlezaddict you are a genius. You made me think to try resetting my game optimization for the Sims in the NVIDIA app (see attached). I reverted my graphics from Windowed mode for the Sims, then optimized to Windowed again and now it works. Thank you puzzlezaddict for helping me get there.
TexasEVil That's interesting for sure. What were the settings before you changed them, if they were different; or did you simply undo and reapply the same settings as before?

Instead of being able to play the game—which is the least one should expect after spending more than enough money on it—I’m constantly being put off and fed false hope. I’ve had enough. I am absolutely fed up with EA! Problems are cropping up that should have been fixed ages ago, along with constant, impossible glitches and bugs—what is the point of all this yet? None, to be honest.
Uninstalled my graphic drivers using the DDU software in safe mode. Reinstalled drivers. Started the game up and made some changes to the settings. Changed my resolution. Saved the changes, exited the game, and tried to start it again. It crashes on the same screen. Moved the Electronic Arts file out of my documents, restarted the game and got to the menu. Changed the resolution and closed the game. Restarted the game. Crashed on same screen. It seems like I cannot play the game whenever I change anything in the options menu and I am only changing the resolution from 1920x1080 to 2048x1440.
S00SHA Does the game work at 2560x1440? That's the native and current resolution of both your monitors. If you don't want to use that resolution, switch to windowed mode first, while still at 1080p, then try a different resolution.
You can reset your in-game graphics options, and your settings in general, by removing Options.ini from Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. That file stores the changes you've made, so if the game won't load far enough to let you revert, trash the file and you should be fine.
Editing the options.ini and changing the resolution to my monitor's resolution allowed me to get into a game of the Sims 4. However, my sim won't do anything. If I interact with an object, the sim will stand there and do the task. Such as sleeping, they will not walk to the bed but will sleep standing in place. They do not perform any animations other than walking and standing around.
S00SHA Test with a new sim in a new save, with nothing from the Gallery or your own library, and still with no mods or custom content or anything else added to the Sims 4 user folder. (Remove your current one if you have to.)
