Update has broken my sims

My game updated and when I logged back in my game took forever to load so I moved my mods out of the sims 4 folder and the same happened again. I then repaired the game on the EA app and logged back in with my mods back in the folder and the game launched however every time I went to play a family it would take me back to the map with a blue square in the corner. I tried to play and old save and a new game and the same thing happened. I really don’t know what to do.

I also got the infinite loading screen. I think it's because the changes to family trees messed things up even in mod-less games, because I think I unintentionally have some Sims in romantic relationships who the game would now consider invalid because of the adjustments to what it considers "close relatives." (I don't mean, like, siblings, more along the lines of "parent's cousin" or "grandparent's sibling," etc.)

When I remove the mods folder my sims is on an infinite loading screen. I left it for an hour yesterday to see if it would load and it didn’t.
