Issues with Trample Damage

I was running some simulations in Tiberium Alliances to look for a specific outcome I've noticed before. It involved Forgotten vehicles trampling over your own units due to poor unit placement. What I've got of an example here is a Militant being run over by a Scrapbus whilst that bus was chasing a Venom.

The Militants took more damage as the bus tried to run them over, which then applies what I perceive to be anti-aircraft damage to the Militants instead of the Scrapbus' anti-infantry damage. The Militants never even got the chance to face the Bowler, which was their counter.

Something feels outdated with the arsenal, I think it applies to all anti-infantry vehicles, regardless of faction or defense/offense status. It would be nice to see Guardians and Reckoners run over infantry with ease, regardless if they were defensive or offensive.

Asking the samething to Bowlers is kind of a problem. It would be quite of a nightmare in simulations to see one prioritize a Nod Commando up ahead and attempt to run over a Black Hand whilst attacking it... I want the game developers to fix or at least update the mechanics involving trample damage.

There's also a niche interaction between Anti-Infantry Barriers and Guardians, where Reckoners don't suffer from that. Do Bowlers suffer the same issue during Forgotten Attacks, where they run into Anti-Infantry Barriers?

Hey there, thanks for your feedback! This does sound really interesting, we will take a look!

  • Hey Shinerplunderer,

we took a look at this issue and found no issue with movement damage done by Scrapbus as well as the damage doen by the weapon or its target prioritization. One possible explanation might be (and the screenshots support that) is that the Scrapbus targeted the Militants as there was no other target available for it. Even though the Scrapbus is not very effective against infantry, its movement damage combined with the (lesser) damage its weapon deals to infantry may mhave lead to the perception of it dealing full damage.

The issue I'm highlighting here is the arsenal fails to provide the trample damage to defense units whenever such a situation occurs. Offense vehicles can trample Defense Infantry, so can Defense Vehicles trample Offense Infantry. I think everyone should be aware of this minor risk, as if the infantry gets trampled, the situation/simulation will change quickly.

Regarding Anti-Infantry Vehicles, they don't use their trample damage due to their preferred target being infantry... I don't know the solution to this so Anti-Infantry Vehicles can trample Infantry properly - maybe give them a 2.5 priority range that targets Infantry within that range first before the one's inside the 1.5 radius? This would apply to both Offensive and Defensive Anti-Infantry Vehicles, perhaps excluding the Defensive Bowler, as it can cause unexpected changes.

  • Hey Shinerplunderer,

I've forwarded the idea of adding the movement damage to the arsenal to the developers.

Same goes for the idea that mobile anti-infantery units (tracked/ wheeled) could (should?) use their movement damage in to try to deal additional damage. But this would mean quite a significant change in balance, so I - honetsly - don't see that coming any time soon.
