- I thought the humor was a little heavy-handed also. But I'm not letting it bother me too much. Especially after EA apologized for it at the end. :hunf:
BTW.....I doubt this thread will last much longer. If you keep up, putting each other down expect it to be locked real soon. It's lasted this long because people were respecting others rights to their own opinions. sherryt07 wrote:

Exactly and with every mod watching this thread.....
You guys have been doing a good job respecting your different opinions, let's keep that going. OK?- First of all, the incessant use of the quote feature is getting a little out of hand. Party fouls all around. You do have the option of using these guys "" if you want to quote 3 words.
Second... the point you soap boxers seem to be missing is that Simpson's humor was never subtle... NEVER. This is just an issue that hits a nerve in the US on both sides, and so now it is a big frickin' deal. It's the same reason some of you will be offended when I say "*" as an exclamatory, but virtually no one will bat an eye when I say "Holy Cow" even though they both improperly evoke religious notions.
The difference between their portrayal of "gun nuts" and their portrayal of Indians, fat lonely nerds, lazy husbands, or easy women is not the level of subtlety in the humor... the variable is the targeted group's inability to take a joke.
The good news is you don't have to... as I said earlier... make like good "victim" conservatives and go donate your money to a competitor. If their loss of revenue from your departure offsets the increased donations of those pleased to see you go, then they will quickly change their minds. The bottom line is, the majority of people who watch the Simpsons do expect this in-your-face lack of subtlety (which has been a mainstay of the show from it's inception) and those who don't take themselves too seriously don't care.
It's hardly the fault of liberal artists that conservative commentators think this medium is beneath them unless they are publishing a political cartoon in a conservative newspaper. - My * was the Lord's name in vain... I think auto-sensor proved my point for me.

The Simpsons is Horatian satire. Light hearted. The quest was Juvenalian satire; angry axe-grinding. The show has handled gun control far better than this. It shouldn't be surprising that it got negative reactions from people who didn't have a problem with commentary on gun control from the show.

You think opening a can of beer with a gun is more light-hearted than children sleeping under a blanket of guns?LusciousJohnnyD wrote:

Yeah-- were. I started it, and I'd be happy to see it end. These people who think voicing concern about the clumsy writing equals deep love for the NRA and its agenda are-- well, I don't want to get banned for personal attacks, so I won't say. My motive for posting was to complain that the game and the show handle sensitive political material in very different ways, and that the people writing the game have a lot to learn when it comes to satire. I haven't complained about any previous questlines because there haven't been any that dealt with subjects of this nature. If one had Wiggum telling Bart Obama wanted him to send the contents of Homer's wallet to GLAAD, I'd have complained about that too; not funny, ham-handed, and based on extreme political partisanship. For the record, I'm a progressive Democrat who doesn't own a gun and thinks it should be nearly impossible for private citizens to get one, but I also believe it doesn't help my side to misuse and debase a respected franchise to bludgeon the other side. If you don't have a problem with this questline, then you don't get the show.TaraInDC wrote:

That says it more than I can.LusciousJohnnyD wrote:
Does it? Perhaps you could indulge me anyway. How exactly does this prove anything about me as a person?TaraInDC wrote:
