Does it? Perhaps you could indulge me anyway. How exactly does this prove anything about me as a person?
On one hand, you have an adult character using a loaded weapon to open a beer, something I think even the real NRA would frown upon. OTOH, you have one child character saying to another the NRA says children should sleep under a bed of guns. Plenty of worse things have been said about the NRA, not to mention that kids say stupid crap all the time.
It ain't even close.LusciousJohnnyD wrote:

It ain't even close.- While I understand your distinction, I will just say it is a lot neater in theory than in practice. We are not talking about two distinct categories of satire with different essential characteristics. In reality what one person categorizes as Horatian another may categorize as Juvenalian, and that distinction has nothing to do with subtlety.
The bottom line is, if (hypothetically) I think that NRA activists are like insecure little children I might think it is lighthearted to portray them as naive little doom and gloomers checking under the bed for monsters to shoot at... it is likely that most people who identify with the group would fail to recognize the frivolity.
You may generally appreciate the writing on the show better, I have no way to know what is going on in your head. But go back and look at your thread... the people who have commandeered it on your side... they are a bunch of whiny agenda pushers... insecure that the lack of reason in their views will be exposed.
Also, the nature of the satire SHOULD depend on the nature of the subject, no? One would expect a little more bite to satire that commented on potentially harmful political ideology than say differences in race. TaraInDC wrote:

No. Think about what is actually occurring in these two instances.- It's clearly obvious to all fans of the show that the writers and much df the content is blatantly anti-conservative, anti-republican, anti-Fox (paradoxically enough), vaguely anti-American, and somewhere Left of San Francisco. I can't even count the number of shows in just the last dozen years that stopped being funny when they suddenly veered way off the tracks to make some lame political cheap shots and turn into eye rolling agitprop. The game, which of course has total content input by the same bunch, will be no different. Everything the Texan utters is an intent to ridicule the Right (in disingenuous ways). Because haven't you heard that patriotic Americans hate the environment and eat children for breakfast? Duh....!

If that is what you think, nothing I can say will help you understand.- Obviously, given how long Simpsons has been on the air, a large number of people find it amusing. If you don't you don't have to watch or play the game. I don't watch Fox News even though many find it hilarious.

Because you think I'm talking about something I'm not. I'm asking how you can think the horrendously improper use of a firearm by an adult is more subtle than some banter between a couple of kids. If I was a gun owner, I'd be more offended by the former, not the latter. But it's satire, so I don't care.
