Forum Discussion
- I don't have much more to be say beyond what I've already posted and the debate that's been going on the last few days here on the forum. I agree with everyone here for their reasons for adding Phil Hartman characters and the monorail.
Lastly I'm just blown away be recent Simpsons viewers who do not know such characters as Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure. Really? But that's another discussion topic for another day. eliansukke180 wrote:

Haha! So true. I totally heard his voice in my head when I read that. Great meme! :mrgreen:ephphoneapps wrote:
Lionel Hutz, Troy McClure, and any other character voiced by Phil Hartman will never ever ever never ever appear in this game. The characters have been retired out of respect for Phil Hartman. That is the way it is, will be, and should be.
Using the excuse "but they would be a great tribute to him!" is BS and selfish.
By that logic, I should throw away all my Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley albums. I should toss out all that Bach and Mozart sheet music sitting on my piano. I suppose I won't read any more of the Classics either, since the authors are all dead. I may as well throw out all my seasons of "I Love Lucy" while I'm at it. I think that people who record their work through various media have an understanding that that work will most likely outlast them. I highly doubt that Phil Hartman would be offended by people laughing at his comedy genius. I suppose my copy of "SNL's: The Best of Phil Hartman" is disrespectful too, right? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but you need to put this into perspective. These people recorded their voices knowing full well that the recordings would outlive them. It's not disrespectful to keep the laughs and joy going. It IS a tribute to him.ephphoneapps wrote:

We will have to agree to (vehemently) disagree. I cannot, in my wildest imagination, believe that ANY human being would want the hallmark of his legacy to be a grisly death.
Phil Hartman brought so much more to the world than that. I don't know your age, but the 1970s, when Hartman came to the world of comedy, was an abominable, miserable gruesome time in our nation's history. Hartman did not work to make us think of all that. Rather, he devoted his talents to making us laugh.
He did that -- above all else -- for almost a quarter century. Made us LAUGH. It was his gift, and it was his purpose in LIFE. Why are we not focusing on that in his death? In my opinion, his wife has -- for too many people -- allowed HER action obliterate what HE had worked for. If that was her goal, it would seem that to a significant degree, she won. And he lost.
My refusal to allow that sick, sick woman, in a singular moment, to erase the decades of laughter he broufht to me, is far, far from an "excuse". I prefer to focus on what HE did. Not what SHE did.ephphoneapps wrote:

Not true at all. A good example is Playmates' World of Springfield line of Action Figures. Figures of both Lionel Hutz & Troy McClure were made way after Phil Hartman's death. It should also be noted that both these action figures were voiced & had had sound bites when they interacted with the many playsets of the line.
So if Playmates was able to use the likeness of these 2 characters as action figures & have them voiced using clips of Phil Hartman, then surely EA & the devs of Tapped Out should have no problem considering they are a bigger company & have a better & longer working relationship with Fox & Gracie Films.
I'm not sure if they would need to talk to Phil Hartman's estate. But if Playmates was able to do it, then so can EA- dcacooperNew Spectator

Whether they need to or not, I have no idea, but they should do that at the very least. Maybe they have already and that is why we don't have any Hartman characters in the game. - All of you people disagreeing with me seem to be forgetting that the producers RETIRED THE CHARACTERS. It's like when a sports team retires a player's #. They don't come back years later and give the # to another person because that person really really wants the #. The people who own the characters did this out of respect. They were closer to Hartman than any of us, so I'll trust their judgement on this.
It's utterly foolish to tie Hartman's legacy into The Simpsons: Tapped Out, so don't throw that nonsense at me. It's not "a way to remember him or honor him." His EXISTING work handles that just fine. And it's not like the characters would be voiced in the game to begin with, so WHY ON EARTH INCLUDE HARTMAN-VOICED CHARACTERS THAT AREN'T VOICED BY HARTMAN? ephphoneapps wrote:

You can say that again!panopticnic wrote:

They kept Edna though. If they agreed to the logic that it is disrespectful (and honestly I don't know about that) they would have removed Edna from the game as well. But they did not. Just an observation.
I see what you're saying, but Hutz has been removed from the Simpsons universe for a long time (last appearance in season 9), while Marcia Wallace after the game was well established. If the game were to have come out after the death of Marcia Wallace, I'd wager she would not be included in the game.
Are there any characters currently in game that were voiced by now-deceased voice talent?
