I have a hard time seeing how a monorail is going to fit in the currently deployed Springfield. Imagine the redesigning, and let's all admit that the inventory and building interface leaves much to be desired.
I agree, the only way it would work is if they raised it above Springfield. I don't know much about programming games though so i don't know how much of a pain this would be. But it is the only way I see this working.
They could have a stationary monorail anchored to the donuts sign like at the end of the monorail episode.panopticnic wrote:
Yeah, but she wasn't a premium character, and the absence of the character wouldn't really interfere with the game. If they are retiring the character from the Simpsons universe you'd think that would mean all that is active. But I do get what you are saying.
Edit: I actually have no opinion on these other characters being added. I was just making an observation.
Oh, I'm not fussed. :) I think it's an interesting discussion!
To be honest, I'm a little surprised they didn't remove Mrs. K when Marcia Wallace passed. It may have been too game breaking considering the quest lines in which she's involved.panopticnic wrote:

hmmm not really. She is only associated with 8 questlines and they are very minor roles. Such as, storm police station, attend court hearing, serve time. It would have 0 impact on the actual game.
Even still, 8 quest lines would have to be reworked. Not quite "game-breaking" though...- Frankly I'd be surprised if they removed any of the characters from the game if the voice actor died.
- For anyone thinking we won't get a certain character because their voice actor died and the character was retired is mistaken as it's already happened.
Capital City Goofball was retired after the death of Tom Poston, yet we still got him in the game.
Lunch Lady Doris was retired for almost 10 years after the death of Doris Grau. But in 2007, she was brought back out of retirement & is now voiced by Tress MacNielle & I'm sure it's only a matter of time until we get her as a playable character.
Like I've said in a previous post. Action figures of both Troy McClure & Lionel Hutz were made way after the death of Phil Hartman & Playmates, which made the World of Springfield action figures had no problems whatsoever getting the rights to make these. They were even voiced Deadshot_DCU wrote:

The Capital City Goofball was not retired. It made appearances after Poston's death, albeit unvoiced as a tribute.
It's pretty obvious that the manner in which Hartman died played a part in the magnitude of the gesture the creators made, and any attempt to bring those characters back would be offensive. To me, at least.Deadshot_DCU wrote:

That's really good research. Very valid points! Thank you!ephphoneapps wrote:

Why would it be offensive to you? And so because it's "offensive" to you, the characters voiced by Phil Hartman should not be included in the game? Even though there's probably thousands of players who would want them.
I respect your wishes, but respect others as well. I for one would want Phil Hartmans characters in the game. Phil was an amazing person & having his characters in the game is a good tribute and it's not offensive to me at all.
And surely it's not offensive to any of Phil Hartmans family as they made action figures of his 2 most famous Simpsons characters after his death (who were in fact voiced)- I really want to see Troy and Lionel added both to Tapped Out and to The Simpsons Lego line. They're two of the most popular characters in the history of the franchise still, and two of my favorites as well.
I think the "we can't do it out of respect for Phil Hartman" argument is total BS. Don't get me wrong, it makes sense for the tv show. I think having a new actor imitate Phil's voice would be a bad idea. But this game and the Lego minifigures provide the perfect opportunity to use Phil's characters because they wouldn't be voiced anyway.
I don't understand why we should pretend the characters never existed in the first place, or how that's more respectful of Hartman's legacy than including them in The Simpsons universe in this way. I think Hartman would be all for it, and what's actually insulting to his memory is to never mention the characters again. Deadshot_DCU wrote:

because it goes against the expressed wishes and intents of the creators of The Simpsons and the respect they had for Phil Hartman and his contributions to not only the show, but to the entertainment industry as a whole. If they were going to bring the characters back in any way, shape or form as a tribute to Hartman, then it would make infinitely more sense to do so on the show itself, and not a video game offshoot.
You keep mentioning action figures, which I don't know anything about and therefore can't speak in regards to. But the fact that they exist doesn't apply to TSTO, from what I can tell.
