The recycling & cardboard wall/tower/gate don't even give any boost, just vanity. The balloon (prize) gives 2% bonus, the catapult gives 2.25% bonus
how many castle parts can we get by upgrading? same amount as the barbarian?
Yeah I think it's 2 towers, 8 or 12 pieces of wall (can't remember) and 1 gate. I think you can earn more with higher upgrades (past level 10), but then you are spending 2k+ in elixir per upgrade. So if you are rolling in elixir, then go for it. I want to make a large castle with the initial set, so I wasn't planning to upgrade the castles unless prompted.
