Cockpit camera shake

When using the drivers eye cockpit camera it seems as if the camera shake setting only effects how much the cockpit is moving across the screen. No matter if you put the setting at 0 or 100 the road ahead shakes like crazy (especially on bumpy roads like Kenya) and it makes my eyes really tired. This is caused by the drivers eye being attached to the movement of the car. This sort of makes sense as we are located in the car. In real life however your body/eyes/brain will filter/dampen most these small vibrations out as your eyes are more or less "locked" to the road ahead. When you look ahead and go over bumps the horizon you focus on is perceived as fairly steady.

Basically in real life you are moving but your image is not as your body compensates the movement and in this game (and DiRT 2.0 is even worse) you get the opposite where your body is not moving but your image is that you can not really compensate for. I understand this is to emulate the bumps but this would also be achieved by only having the cockpit bounce around while the road ahead is more fixed.

The camera shake setting should have a fixed cockpit and moving environment on 0 and a moving cockpit and a somewhat fixed environment on 100. Maybe add a little bit of (adjustable) 'lock to horizon' from the drivers eye camera.

  • I 100% agree with this. This is a problem in the Dirt Rally series as well. The Argentinian stages are unbearable on the eyes.

There needs to be a mild 'lock-to-horizon' and also a much more drastic camera shake to dampen the aggressive oscillations of the camera view's horizon. It REALLY strains the eyes when the horizon is bouncing all over the place.

For reference, RBR does it best. Allow for dampening of the horizon movements by allowing for more camera shake. The horizon should move smoothly on screen and the car chassis should shake around a lot more as a result.

EA/CODEMASTERS, PLEASE INCREASE THE CAMERA SHAKE TO ACCOMMODATE THIS!

  • The game now includes several options for VR that would be useful for monitor users too. Hopefully these can make it across.

Lock to horizon however would be better as a slider rather than an on/off option.

    Fixed Horizon:

This sets whether, when driving, the view of the world remains fixed and level, or whether it rotates with the position of the vehicle.

    Slider Settings:

    HUD Scale:

This changes the overall size of the 'heads-up display' during racing.

All components that make up this display, scale with that change.

The larger the number the larger the size of the display.

    HUD Position:

This changes the position of the 'heads-up display' during racing, up or down, in the view.

The larger the number the higher the display will appear.

    HUD Distance:

This changes the position of the 'heads-up display' during racing, towards or away from the initial view point.

The larger the number the further away the display will appear.
