TYRES ALLOCATION AND USAGE ON WRC

Good day everyone.

I've started this discussion to bring up the tyre management situation.

For many of us, this has been terrible since the beginning, because, we think that the number of tyres that can be used, and also the type, is very arcade, and not that immersive, like it was in the past WRC games.

The thing is that, we, as drivers, need more differences of kind, for example, all the compounds in every rally. And to implement the possibility to change tyres, if you bring spares with different compound, at the start of every stage, like reality. And, most of all, the number of tyres in every Park. There are some rallyes with so few, that it makes it too hard to manage them, and so the experience gets boring and frustrating in long rallyes.

We're glad if you can fix this thing, because we're loving this game that brings simulation to console, in levels not that distant to other sims, like Richard Burns Rally.

Thanks for the attention

    Yes Codies,

Please just give us 6 sets of the correct tyres and let us manage them.

That includes the ability to swap tyres around the car between stages.

Add some strategy. The spare tyres are currently useless unless you get a puncture.

And what's with the used tyres disappearing?

It seems to give enough tyres in Championship mode, where you can only do a maximum of 9 stages.

But in Custom Championship mode, where you can have up to 24 stages, it still only allocates enough for 9 it seems.

I've just done 16 stages in Kenya with services after stages 3, 6, 9 and 12. It gave me 1 set of hards and 1 set of mediums.

Plus an extra set of hards from shakedown.

I used 1 set of hards for stages 1-6

Second set of hards for 7-12

    And the mediums for 13-16

My tyres lasted fine but the AI changed tyres at every service and did the last 5 stages on completely worn tyres and were no longer competitive.

It's unauthentic and ruining the game for those that want a proper rally experience.

  • I totally agree! The much more granular tyre management of the previous WRC games made by Kylotonn added so much more depth to the rallying and an entirely new level of tactical decisions to make. Like putting a mix of tarmac and snow tyres on when driving in Monte Carlo or bringing an additional spare tyre of another type to switch some tyres between stages without service. It was just so much more fun than the rather simple and boring tyre management of EA's WRC.

  • It's bad that the old tires disappear as soon as you've used a new set.

But I have a question about the right tire choice for asphalt/croation for 4 stages in a row.

    12.9 km - rain

    12.9 km - dry

    10.2 km - dry

    10.2 km - dry

The game advises me to take rain tires. But I still have medium and hard tires to choose from.

    Which would you recommend?

I advise you to use wet tyres. You will lose much less time in the first stage. The AI will do the same and you would be on equal terms. If you use dry tyres you will lose a lot of time in the first stage and even if you go faster in the others you will not recover the lost time. If there were 5 or 6 stages, or one of them was long (25 km), it would be better to use dry tyres, since they would run out of rubber and would have a great advantage for several kilometres.

For a test I generated a fast rally and changed the order of the same routes
    12.9 km - dry
    12.9 km - rain
    10.2 km - dry
    10.2 km - dry
    That makes 28% wet tarmac.

I wanted to see if the game's recommendation mechanism would fall apart. But no, the game stayed true to its logic and kept recommending the rain tires.

So I chose the rain tires for the Club Championchip Rally1. The second stage (dry) went well, the grip was there. But that was no longer the case on the last two stages. The brakes also started to lock up all the time.

I then did the last four stages (34.8km, all dry) and took the recommended medium tires. And they also worked better on the last two stages. The brakes locked up less, although I chose a stronger setting in the setup. But I can't say whether that would have been the better choice for the previous stages.

Everything indicates that rain tires offer good grip in the dry, but wear out faster (in the dry?). The decision can be difficult at 28% wet conditions.

I just had a stage in Japan 11.4 km dry with service before and directly after, and still had different tires left: medium, hard, 2x rain. So I took the rain tires.
The grip was about the same as with hard tires, but decreasing towards the end of the stage. And in the service they were shown as worn 1/3 red.

So: Good grip but heavy wear on dry asphalt!! (This is an improvement to Dirt Rally 2.0)

If you had to drive 2 stages now
    -Japan 11.4km rain
    -Japan 11,4Km dry
then of course rain tires are appropriate.

But if you have it the other way around
    -Japan 11,4Km dry
    -Japan 11.4km rain
then the tires are already used up after the first stage. Perhaps still the best choice, but perhaps not as ideal as for the first example.

    A third example
    -Japan 19,4Km dry
    -Japan 11,4Km dry
    -Japan 11.4km rain
And now? Which tires do we take? Maybe Medium tires better?
