Visual fidelity on consoles (Series X) needs some serious love in many locations
There are huge differences between how visuals look like between locations. They seem to be years apart in development and some are very, very behind the fidelity of DR2 (which was running 4k/60fps on lastgen HW).
Most notable are for some reason asphalt rallies with Corse (Mediteraneo) on top, textures are just blurry lowres mess even in stationary position. It looks like the game is enforcing some lower LoD and also low anisotropic filtering on textures. Or also maybe upscales from something like 720p while still not being 60fps. Also most the times looks SDR at best (until you open photomode).
Your marketing claim at launch was 4k/60fps and parity with PC High, where is it? Corse is literally unplayable for me, looks like X360 rendition of a game, while still not even keeping that 60fps.
Monte looks bland, lighting seems off on top of flat lowres visuals.
Kenya looks ok but bright day lighting is completely off with color grading, making red stripe on McRae Focus look pinkish.
Sweden banks load with completely flat shading and low poly count, visible even in prestage animation on Agsjon. This is even lower low.
New Zealand/Estonia has a lot of smeared textures too.
And so on...
Most locations that look decent are saved by dense foliage covering the lowres/lowdetail ground (Sardinia).
Furthermore texture quality is there as it is visible in photo mode.
But come on, this was supposed to be next gen game, right? You have only current gen console with SSDs, make some use of it! There is even texture popin in car selection before stage, while it could have been all loaded while loading screen is showing. And even in car selection the textures are blurry with literally nothing apar from car to render, really?
UE4 can look much better on this HW.
Or add some more visual modes, like 1080p/60fps but with higher visual fidelity, or even 4k/30fps for some people.
Also water reflections? Where are they? Where are the puddles in rain from DR2?
WRC Generations had much higher fidelity of at least road textures and it was done by a smaller team while still running 60fps ok.
Even 4 year old DR2 looked nicer and let Dolby Vision shine in most locations.
While gameplay-wise game is great, visuals are off putting sometimes. Find some way to use the HW limitation and UE limitations as this way I'm really dissapointed you didn't stay with inhouse Ego engine.
