Can't see my Steam friends in EA Racenet or game

I have my steam account linked but I can't see my steam friends

I'm using the game through the EA launcher

I can add them manually in racenet by finding out their racenet name and d

Sending a friend request, but this seems a bit long winded.  What is the poj t of linking accounts if I can't see friends?

When I go to the find friend section and I click on steam it gives a message about user not having permissions

Any help much appreciated

    Are you on the 5 hour trial btw?  

    i was playing using the EA play 5 hour trial and had exactly the same issue as you.

    i linked my steam accounts and got my friend to do the same.

    he has a EA FRIENDS list as well as his steam list but me (on ea version) have only 1 friends list and he is not in it.

    i can search for his steam name but sending a friend request does nothing.

    he can see me in his ea friends list but inviting me does nothing.

    defiantly NOT buying this game on EA app now even though its cheaper than steam.

    I was but no longer am as i bought the game.  I am using the EA launcher version though.

    Damn.

    Well even though the ea version can be got cheaper im not gunna get it whilst its broken.
