[Steam / 1.8.0] Crash to desktop without error message

Hi,

a couple of weeks ago I created this thread:

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Steam-quot-Game-Files-missing-or-corrupt-quot-crash-to-desktop/m-p/13613000#M2053

Since then I have not had another crash to desktop - up until about 40 minutes after playing version 1.8.0 for the first time. This time there was no "game files missing" error message,  but the crash "felt" the same.

Happened on Iberia this time.

  • I can't start WRC 1.8.0 after the update. I reinstalled the game and deleted appdata and Documents/WRC for WRC, rebooted too.Updated BIOS

    Just the splash logo appears, then back to steam. I've tried starting it up without my csl dd on as well. No luck

    If there is an issue with your Steam files, verifying as below should help.

    Steam Verify files - https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/0C48-FCBD-DA71-93EB

    Additional stepps:

    Make sure your display is connected to your GPU and not the motherboard video output

    Run System File Checker to help ensure the integrity of your Windows System files: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

    Perform a clean boot before starting: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 or http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

    I installed 1.8 patch for EA WRC and twice in 1 hour i had two sudden crashes with no error messages. Juat the game disappearing whilst playing online which was frustrating.

    Another friend also on Steam had it crashing three times. I think there is something not right with this patch on PC. Please investigate asap.

    Thanks,

    Ivan

  • @EA_Barry While I'm thankful for your reply, I'm far beyond these "standard" suggestions you provided - altough "Make sure your display is connected to your GPU and not the motherboard video output" was worth a heartfelt laughter.

    As I pointed out in my other thread, my system is clean and stable, has been for years now. I play other games regularly, and unless it's a known issue, I have no crashes / technical issues with any of them.

    I don't want to mix the issue of my other thread ("game files missing" crash to desktop") with the one I made this thread for too much, to avoid confusion.

    tl;dr: The game crashes to desktop without an error message on ver. 1.8.0.

    I9 9900k
    RTX 4070ti @ 1440p, DLSS on, Gsync on, constant 100fps.

  • We played multiplayer with over 20 friends.

    This mode currently has two major problems.

    <The first one>
    During about two hours of multiplayer, almost all players experienced the following problem at least once.
    ・Game crashed
    ・Excluded from the server
    This is a fatal bug for everyone who enjoys multiplayer.

    <Second>
    Even if you change the tires, the level of wear will not recover, so you will have to run multiple stages with the tires at their maximum wear, meaning they have no grip. There is no point in changing the tires, and this makes it impossible to set up multiple stages in multiplayer.

    ***These critical bugs in multiplayer are driving many players, or customers, away from the game.
    Please repair it as soon as possible.

    I appreciate the quick follow-up, but I'll echo the same sentiments - I have tried all of that. That is why I had mentioned my wiping of the the two dirs manually.

    This would be the only game I have issues with

    I should add that I did read a suggestion about Varjo Home (Varjo Aero) being open and active when launching the game (even 2D) to order to fix this issue, and I also globally disabled OpenXR Toolkit as recommended - no change, same issue.
