Thunderbolt Audio Issues

Since the last EAC update in September I have been unable to play due to issues with my Thunderbolt Audio Interface. I have a Presonus Quantum 2626 that I have been using for 4 years and never had an issue with Apex.

At this point I have narrowed it down to The Thunderbolt interface specifically with Apex. This issue is not present for any other game or system on my PC.

I have done everything from a fresh Windows 11 install to Bios Updates and more. It seems that when the game is running there must be a hook running through the kernel system slower than the Thunderbolt clock speed and causing the interface to crash then the game locks up until the interface is power-cycled. It takes less than 5 minutes to replicate the issue repeatedly.

If I disconnect my interface and purely use Windows Audio from the headphone jack the issue disappears but I don't think this should be the solution as I have played Apex with this exact setup for years.

Would love to see this addressed as I much prefer my normal audio setup for streaming, monitoring, and recording purposes.

Thanks

  • So happy to find this post! YES! This EXACT same thing is happening to me with almost all the exact same troubleshooting steps taken. I'm on a Universal Audio Arrow over Thunderbolt, and I get a Code -38 crash almost exactly 1 minute after loading the game at the menu screen.

    Steps taken

--Mobo is a z790 Creator Wifi w/ 14700K (no overclock)
--Full fresh Windows 11 format installation
    --Latest drivers
    --Latest BIOS
--Tried 5 different versions of audio drivers from Universal Audio, ones that traditionally worked for years too.
--ASPM and PCIe management turned off (recommend in UA forum, doesn't fix)
    --New thunderbolt cable
    --Tried different Thunderbolt jack
--Even in a different audio source is chosen as the primary source, the game will still crash. I must disable my Thunderbolt Audio Source in Device Manager to keep Apex Legends from causing the issue below.

    Things to note

--I have played this game for years on my current setup with no issues
--Only in the last month or so has this issue started, a crippling error that makes the game unplayable
--This is the ONLY game this happens to for me. All my games and system run 100% perfect otherwise.

  • Thank goodness that someone else has found this too!  I have had the same issue for 2 months nowsince September just like the poster.  I use the same thunderbolt approach with a Presonus Quantum 2626 as well.  I've used this setup for almost 3 years now and have played a TON of apex and never once had an issue until recently.  And same as poster above, I get the same audio crash 1 minute into a game every freaking time.  Its so disappointing.  I enjoy this game, but I literally cannot play it at all right now.  I keep hoping that an update will post that will fix the issue, but I guess I'm doomed to never playing Apex again.

To echo what others say as well - this is the ONLY game i have this problem with.  Very annoying.  I've wiped my PC and fresh installed EVERYTHING, tried every driver update under the sun and nothing works.

    PC Specs:
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900K (3.20 GHz)
128 GB (128 GB usable) RAM
    Win 11
    RTX 4090

  • I thought I was the only 1 with the issue. I have done EVERYTHING i could to fix this but its just APEX LEGENDS !!!! HELP !!!

Apex Legends specifically has a huge problem with either Thunderbolt Audio, and virtual audio Inputs and Outputs. Game crashes, and a high pitch noise is plays till the pc is restarted. This only happens with thunderbolt audio drivers. It does not happen with my other audio interface that connected via USB by the same company. Been needing a fix for this for months
